Muties

During the time from what is referred to as sky dark and the time era of the books, almost one hundred years have passed. Mutations (Muties) have developed over these years into abnormal people, animals, birds and fish. No species was able to completely escape the effects of radiation and chemical warfare. Even cock roaches who the scientists said would inherit the earth could not escape entirely, either growing to considerable size or starving due to lack of food. This is the worst that happened to animals, man and all other subspecies. I will try to explain some of the more normal mutations, at least those that followed a pattern.

Scalies are people who have mutated in the direction of reptiles, having a more scale like skin, hence the name scalies. These muties tend to live in swampy, water infested areas usually in swamps. The scales came as a result of radiation burns hardening into a scale like skin, tough to cut and in bad cases it is almost like an armour. Having immersed themselves in water to prevent the worst of the damage from radiation, some of the scalies even have gills. Like all muties though, they do have some form of communication, whether it is a language developed over the last hundred years or a method of signals depends on how mutated they have become. Some of the scalies still resemble their human counter parts in general shape and size, but due to extreme radiation exposure they lack the mental capabilities that normally would have developed.

Stickies come in all shapes and sizes, originally human, they tend to have the same physical dimensions as people. That though usually ends the similarities. Stickies are so called because of suction cup growths on the hands and sometimes feet of the mutant. These suction pads are capable of adhering to almost any surface and can be used as a climbing tool or stuck to human skin they will rip out big chunks of flesh when pulled inwards to the mutant.
