This poem has a spoiler for all "Night World" books after "Soulmate". There are also some concepts included in it which are completely L.J. Smith's, like the blue fire, and the significance of the Millennium.

Old Soul

She watches the world with aged eyes,
Of unseeing colour they regard the skies,
Lifetimes of experience in that young face
Gazing with knowledge at the vastness of space.

Her heart knows grief, yet no one has died,
She had felt love, but is still untried
Joy, despair, pain, sorrow and fear,
This girl has suffered, yet not from here

Her soul has lived for years unknown,
Through many lives and children born.
Now she stands near time's final day
Unless earth's children can find a way,
To stop the end in darkness and blood,
Unleashing then a final flood,
Of love and fire, a brilliant blue,
To shed the darkness with its bright hue.

Until that day she wil watch and wait,
For the four who's own dark fate,
Will decide if the darkness wins,
Or cleanse the world of all its sins.

The knowledge in those age-old eyes
Can offer them the final prize.
To free the world of hate and fear,
In soulmates' love, freedom is here.
