Here is part one.
You can get to part two by using the link at the bottom of the page. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I have borrowed some of L.J. Smith' characters:
Thea, Eric, James, Poppy, Ash, Mary-Lynette, Hunter, Quinn, Rashel, Thierry, Hannah, Gillian,
Blaise and Morgead. All other characters are my own and you have to ask to use them (except
that of Krystina as she is a friend of mine).
     Rating: PG-13
S
Only for some of the charcters who get together, up to
Witchlight and no major plots are revealed (well there are occasional references.) In
fact the only thing after Soulmate is the mention of Morgead and that doesn't spoil
anything to do with Huntress or other Night World books after that.
Author's Notes: I am open to all crticisms/praises at
[email protected] I want to be an author so all comments are very helpful! Also,
when you read about Ebony, if you have read a series of books by Janny Wurts called "Wars of
Light and Shadow" then think Arithon, that's who I based him on, with a little Adrian Paul from
Highlander thrown in for good measure!

It was midnight, a perfect time for
Vampires. A lone figure walked through the streets. She was average height and wore a long,
midnight blue velvet cloak under which she wore a long, black dress, low cut with a
heart-shaped collar. The cresent moon shone brightly, revealing her features. Her face had a
classical beauty and reminded you of pictures from Greek vases. Her eyes were sapphire blue and
she had an almost perfectly symmetrical face, with her eyebrows shaped in beautiful, natural
curves. Her hair settled on her shoulders in magnificent long, deep brown waves. Resting in her
hair was a diamond tiara setting off her eyes to perfection. Her gentle mouth was set in an
unusually fierce way and her eyes were as cold as ice. Her name was Sapphira Rosewood and she
was a Witch.
Ebony turned the corner. His mind was still reeling from that brief
encounter. 'What had happened?' In one instant his life had been turned upside down. A single
word kept playing through his mind, "Soulmates". 'No! That was impossible. There was no such
thing! He was a Vampire, a killer! He had killed before and no blue-eyed witch was going to turn
him into a Daybreaker! Maybe Quinn and Ash hadn't been able to resist, but he was better than
they were, Hunter Redfern himself had told him that. This Vampire was stronger! He would never
give in!'
Sapphira, phone!" her mother yelled up the stairs. It was the day after
the prom and Sapphira knew it would be her human best friend, Krystina. Her parents were not
very happy with their friendship, but Sapphira didn't really care. Krystina was much more fun
than any of the Witches round School, anyway most of them were Circle Midnight and were not very
friendly to anyone outside that circle. She had one close Witch friend, her name was Talera and
she was a year younger than Sapphira. It had been Talera who had introduced her to her closest
group of friends, the most wanted people in the Night World, Circle Daybreak.
To be continued!!!!!!!!!
This had been prom night, the Senior prom. It was supposed to be a
wonderful night, especially if you were a Junior invited by the most popular Senior in the
school. What a pity the evening had been ruined by a creep.
The evening had started out fine. He had picked her up in his father's
white stretch limousine at 8pm. Her dress was new and extremely sexy, with a slit up the right
side and the dress hung off the shoulders. He had looked even more gorgeous standing by her
front door in a Tuxedo. His ear-length blonde hair was neat and his sky blue eyes had been
glittering with appreciation. His boyish smile took her breath away as he had taken her arm and
led her to the car.
Sapphira's parents had warned her against going to a prom with a human.
They were both members of Circle Twilight, and although they were not 'vermin' haters, they did
not want their precious only daughter to be closely associating with them, especially with all
the trouble recently. She had not cared and had wanted to go just to prove to her best friend
Krystina that she would go out with a senior. Anyway, she thought David was really nice and had
been thrilled when he asked her to go out with him, after all he was a year older than she
was!
Well everything had been fine until just before Midnight. She had
danced with him several times and had even been asked by other seniors, which had really
flattered her. The lights flickering on the gym hall floor and the decorations, had been
sparkling and dazzling. She must have seemed like a child bewitched by the lights on the
Christmas Tree, rather than a 17 year old Witch who was descended from the Harman family on her
father's side. The atmosphere had been unbelievable and she felt as if she was walking
on air. Nothing on Earth had ever felt that good before. It had been after David had turned
those dazzling blue eyes on her and suggested that they go for a walk along the beach when
everything had gone wrong.
They had walked perhaps a mile up the beach, and had been starting to
get intimate, not too intimate as Sapphira was not like that, but cosy enough, when He
had to show up, ruining everything. Justin just couldn't accept that she had left him, he may
be a rather handsome Witch, but he had no other redeeming qualities. Everything had
disintegrated and Justin and David had got into a punch-up. Such stupid male bravado annoyed
Sapphira so much that she had stormed off, and was now wandering through the streets in an
amazingly bad mood.
How could he have done that to her? She was surprised that even Justin
would go that far. Now, even if David ever talked to her again, her entire evening had been
ruined. Her temper flared up again and she felt like kicking a lampost, or even better, putting
a very nasty spell on Justin and hoping that it would take a while before he worked out how to
remove it. Sapphira stopped suddenly. Someone was watching her and it was not a nice feeling.
If it was a human they were in for a surprise, threatening this girl could be dangerous to your
health!
She started walking again and could hear footsteps following her
closely. They matched her's exactly and had she not been a Witch it was unlikely that she would
have noticed. By this time, this person was annoying her even more than the Justin/David
situation. She spun round quickly and marched back the way she had come to face her
stalker.
There was no one behind her now, however, and Sapphira began to feel
afraid. Someone grabbed hold of her sleeve just then and spun her around to face a pair of
mesmerising emerald eyes. She stared into them in annoyance, and her attacker blinked in
confusion. "Are all the Vampires around here as annoying or as stupid as you?" she said,
blatantly angry with Night World Vampires too dumb or lazy to check if they were pursuing a
fellow Night Worlder or not.
His eyes became guarded and he gave her a 'how do you know I am a
Vampire' look. "I know because I'm a Witch, and who else but you folk would try and hypnotise
people who are walking alone at Midnight?" she replied to his unspoken query.
He laughed then and flashed her a devilish smile. She was intrigued
by this Vampire, she certainly didn't know who he was, but he definitely interested her and she
didn't know why.He had long, jet-black hair that came to just below his ears. His face was very
symmetrical and she thought to herself that this one must break hearts. He was definitely not
her type, but nonetheless she was drawn to him in an indescribable way. What on earth was
happening to her?
Just then his hand touched her bare arm. Something in that touch was
electric. They looked at each other for a moment in shock. Both of them then slammed up shields.
Sapphira looked away, her body was trembling. What on earth was this? He was a Vampire
for Goddess' sake!
Ebony carried on as though nothing happened. "Sorry about that, I
thought I knew all the Night Worlders in this part of town, or I would never had treated you so
abysmally. Please accept my humblest apologies. My name is Ebony Blackthorn." He smiled again
and gave her an aristocratic bow, before moving off down the road.
"My name is Sapphira Rosewood, pleased to meet you!" She yelled in
return at the fast disappearing figure of Ebony. She turned around and slowly began walking
home, the trouble with Justin and David totally forgotten. Her mind was wrapped up in the name,
Ebony. It sent chills down her spine, but she couldn't stop saying it over and over in her
mind. She also kept seeing those emerald eyes peering through that jet-black hair. A part of her
wanted to forget him, but another part of her wouldn't let her.
"I'll get it up here", she yelled and picked up the private phone in
her room. "Hello Krystina" she said, sitting on her red velvet four poster water bed. She
glanced around at her room with its walls covered in a collection of 'Fantasy' posters. She had
pictures of Vampires, Werewolves, Unicorns, Pegasi, Witches, Fairies, Dragons and various other
mythological creatures (or so most people thought). She had a fetish for Dragons and wished
they were real, not just as shape-shifters, but like some stories described them, nice and kind,
Dragons who would let you ride them! The thought of riding a Dragon sent shivers of delight
down her spine.
"How did you know it was me when your mom only shouted 'phone' at you?
You do it every time I call!", Krysina asked in a very puzzled tone of voice.
"I'm psychic, how many times do I have to tell you so. It's not my
fault if you don't believe me!" this was an age old statement and one her parents did not like
her using, but Sapphira was always doing things they didn't like. She just wasn't as perfect as
her cousin Shaun, but she really didn't care!
"Okay, sorry I asked!", Krysina said huffily. Sapphira was very weird,
even by her standards. She was obsessed with the Myths and Legends of various cultures, but
Krystina did not know why. "I only rang you up to ask what happened last night with David." A
hint of excitement crept into her voice and Sapphira sighed, she was going to have to relate
the whole story from the beginning, leaving out the fact that Ebony was a Vampire of course.
"It started off great. I was all dressed up and David came to collect
me in his dad's limousine. The atmosphere in the gym was incredible and I danced with quite a
few of the seniors. It was about half past eleven when it all went wrong. David and I took a
walk along the beach in the moonlight, and guess who showed up! Justin the creep! He got into a
punch-up with David and I stormed off leaving the battle of the egos to carry on without me. If
David ever talks to me again, which is unlikely, I will probably dump him as I hate stupid male
bravado like that fight. It just wasn't necessary!"
"You just need to find the right guy, that's all. Someone tall, dark,
handsome and mysterious!"
"Talking about mystery guys, I met one last night."
"Found yourself a new one already? I'm impressed! Last time it took you
two weeks from when you dumped Justin to find yourself someone new, you're improving!"
"Ha. Ha. Ha. Very amusing I'm sure. Anyway he's not my type. He had
jet-black hair and bright emerald green eyes. He was taller than me and said his name was
Ebony. It was like he had an electric touch..."
"Hey. love-sick, snap out of it. Whoever he is he seems to have caught
your attention. You're right though, you never go for guys who don't have blond hair and blue
or grey eyes. It's a good job I'm not male or you'd be after me!"
"Perhaps, but that has nothing to do with it. Anyway I couldn't
possibly go out with him, he's a V... not my type." Sapphira hoped that Krys hadn't noticed
that she almost called him a Vampire. She had to be more careful than that! Krys was her best
friend, but if she ever found out about the Night World then she would be killed! That was a
risk Sapphira didn't want to take!
"Weeelll, I suppose so. Look, I have to go now Sapphira, my mom is
making rude gestures at me because she wants to use the phone. I'll come round this evening if
you like, and we can talk more then."
"Sure. You could even stop the night, I'm sure mom won't mind, she
never has before!"
"Okay, I'll see you then, bye."
"Bye." Sapphira replaced the handset and sighed. that has been a
close call! She had almost told Krysia about Ebony being a Vampire! Well, since Krys was coming
round tonight, she felt as if she should tidy her room up, it was a tip as usual. All a part of
her wanted to do was go back up that road to see if Ebony was there. 'What am I doing? He's a
Vampire, I'm a Witch. Night World law says you can only get involved with your own kind, unless
there is a serious matter such as a family dispute in volved. There is definitely no dispute
here, and you are thinking about risking Circle Daybreak over a stranger? Be serious and get on
with your life. You will probably never see him again!'
Somehow, no matter how hard she tried, Sapphira kept seeing those
flashing emerald eyes looking into hers. She felt the touch of his hand, that electric touch.
All she could think of was finding him, but how? Finally she decided to go and see her only
Nightworld friend from this area, Talera. If anyone would know who this Ebony Blackthorn was,
and what he was like, it was her. Depite the fact that she had been in Circle Daybreak for
longer than Saphhira, Talera still managed to be friendly with most of the Night World folk
around here. Talera was one friend her parents did approve of.
