Disclaimer: I created the characters of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, wait
sorry, don't know what came over me. Cris Carter owns and created The
X-Files. He knows nothing of this story, let's keep it between you and
me,
k? 1013, Twentieth Century Fox and Cris Carter own the X-Files. They
have
in no way, shape or form allowed this to be written. Always on my mind
belongs to Elvis Presely. Marvin the Martian belongs to Warner
Brothers.
Please don't sue, all you'll get is some X-Files stuff and a bunch of
stuff that really should be thrown out but I don't have the heart to do
it.
Spoilers: None really, references to The Pilot, Tooms, Pusher,
Irrestible
and Redux II.
Rating: PG
Catergory: MSR
Warning: Only one, run away now if the idea of Mulder and Scully liking
each other in a way other than platonic makes you want to throw up your
root beer.
Authors Notes: After buying the A Life Less Ordinary soundtrack solely
for
Beyond the Sea I came across this cool song. After contemplating during
History if I should write a story or leave it alone I decided to write a
story.

Summary: Scully is about to leave The X-Files and Mulder, can he stop
her?
Slowly but surely she walked through the small office. On the verge of
tears
she looked down into the empty box. Passed his desk and clutter to her
tiny
desk, the desk that he had put in just for her. She placed the box onto
her
desk and allowed herself a moment to collect herself. It was hard, but
necessary. All she had been for the past five years was neatly arranged
on
her small desk. His sunflower seeds, her old ice tea can, her tape
player,
his hypnosis tapes. She started with the drawers, just pulling them out
and
dumping the contents into the box. In went the seeds, cans went in the
trash, his tapes went in. She picked up her tape recorder and noticed a
small post it. A small Marvin the Martian was in the corner, with the
name
Fox on the top. His barely legible writing read:
Dearest Dana,
Skinner told me this morning. I don't understand it, but I need you to
know
something. I'll always love you. Whenever you feel ready, if ever,
just
come back. Press play and remember that I'll love you forever and a
day.
-Fox
Tears swelled in her eyes but she refused to let them flow. She sat
down
and
pressed the button marked play.
He watched her from the doorway, when reached for the button he started
to
walk towards her.
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
And maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
He stood behind her and spoke, "It's true, I didn't love you enough. If
I
could take it back I would." She gasped, she wanted to turn but her body
refused. Now, the silent tears came down.
If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
"To everything, Samantha, The X-Files, my whole life. I was blinded by
the
need to find the truth. You never out of my thoughts. That's why I
ditched
you so repeatedly, I wanted to protect you. Keep you from all the evil
in
this world."
And maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine
"After Pfaster and after Modell I just wanted to hold you and never let
go.
When you were sick I should've held you. I was happy, even though you
didn't know it, I did love you."
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
"When you were tired, I should've rested with you. When you were sad, I
should've comforted you. Each morning when you walked in I should've
told
you how beautiful you looked."
Tell me,
Tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me,
Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied
I'll keep you satisfied
"I know that you loved me Dana. No one else has stuck around this long,
no
one except you. Please, come back to me and The X-Files. I need you,"
he
paused, "I can't survive without you."
The tape clicked off and a thick silence covered the room. She stood up
and
turned. The tears had smeared her mascara but she still looked
beautiful.
"No Mulder. Not everything can be changed with one song and a few empty
promises. I need more. I need someone that I know is going to be there
for
me, physically as well as emotionally. But for the record, I do love
you.
I
would be happy to stay, if there was something to stay for. All that's
here
for me is empty cans and sunflower seeds. You're always running off on
a
lead, in hopes that it'll take you closer to your sister."
"Not anymore," he closed his eyes, took a deep breath and spoke again,
"They
called me this morning. They found Samantha. She died about a year
after
she was taken, a gunshot to the heart. All this," he gestured to the
entire
office for emphasis, "For nothing."
"Oh Mulder," she stepped closer towards him and put her arms around him.
"Not Mulder, Fox, call me Fox."
She held him closer to her body. He returned the embrace whole
heartedly.
The closer he held her, the farther she seemed. He wanted to have his
body
meld with hers, so he never had to let go. His tears mixed into her
hair
and
he smiled.
"So, does this mean that you're staying?"
"Only if the offer still stands."
"Always Dana, always."
ALL DONE, BYE BYE.
