Spoilers: None. Whenever you want them to get married is fine with me as
long as you don't say never!
Summary: Late one night Mulder's watching Scully sleep and he thinks to
himself while quietly listening to a CD,would she know how much he loved
her if tommorow never came?
Disclaimer: Mulder&Scully don't belong to me, I'm just borrowing them.
They really belong to CC, 1013, and FOX. The song, 'If Tommorow Never
Comes' belongs to the musical group, Joose, and no infringement is
intended.
Author's note: One of the most romantic things in the world to me would
be watching the person you love sleep. I don't know why, it just seems
so sweet to me, so I decided to write about it before someone else
discovered this absolutely *Gorgeous* song! ;*)
If Tommorow Never Comes
Late one night, Mulder lay in bed beside the one thing he
treasured more than anything, his wife and life partner, Dana Scully.
She lay beside him, gently breathing in and out in a peaceful sleep. She
was turned on her side facing him, and he watched her. Her beautiful
auburn hair, resting gently on her cheek. He smiled and thought how
lucky he was to have her. So many things had gone wrong in his life, yet
he had been blessed with such an angel as Dana Scully, who loved him with
all her heart.
He was captivated by her beauty, and didn't want to fall alseep
yet. He wanted to watch her a while longer. So that this memory of her
would last forever, he wanted to listen to some soft music to make it
even more special. He tenderly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake
her, and pushed the play button on the CD player beside their bed. He
eased back into bed, and stared at her lovingly as the music began and a
soft voice sung words that were truely from his heart and had the intense
power to rock his soul.
Sometimes late at night I lay awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost in peace and dreams so I turn out the light
And lay there in the dark.
And a thought crosses my mind.
If I never wake in the morning,
Would she ever dout
The way I feel about her in my heart?
If tommorow never comes,
Will she know how much I loved her?
Did I try in every way,
To show her every day,
She's my only one.
If my time on Earth were through,
And she must face this world without me,
The love I gave her in the past,
Would it be enough to last,
If tommorow never comes?
There were many times that they risked their lives, whether it be
for each other or a case, and he now wondered if he had showed enough
love for her, and if she knew how much she really meant to him.
Cause I've lost loved ones in my life,
Who never knew how much I loved them.
And now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed.
He breathed in sharply after hearing this verse. He was
surprised at how well this song fit his life. He had lost Sam and his
father, each not knowing how much he loved them. He almost lost Dana
too, but Heaven sent her back to him, and let hr lay beside him tonight.
He softly traced his fingers on the china doll skin of her face,
listening even more intently than before to see if the song would tell
him what to do.
So I made a promise to myself,
To say each day how much she means to me.
And avoid the circumstance,
That there's no second chance
To tell her how I feel.
That he had done the day they got married. Hell, he started
saying that everyday since she had walked into his life, but it had been
to himself. He needed to tell her.
If tommorow never comes,
Will she know how much I loved her?
Did I try in every way,
To show her every day,
She's my only one?
If my time on Earth were through,
And she must grace this world without me,
The love I gave her in the past,
Would it be enough to last,
If tommorow never comes?
So tell that someone that you love,
Just what you're thinkin of,
If tommorow never comes.
The song faded, but it had proven a very important fact to him.
Life was too short, not long enough for her to ever understand how much
he loved her. His heart told him to wake her and let her know.
He brushed his hand over her cheek, smoothed her hair behind her
ear, and then kissed her softly on the lips. Her crystal blue eyes
blinked, and then shone brightly into his. She gave a small smile, but
her eyes questioned him.
"Dana, I just wanted you to know how much I love you."
She kissed him tenderly and then whispered with their noses and
foreheads touching, "I do know, and I love you too."
"I was just thinking that if something ever happened to me, and
I'd never see you again, I need you to know that you're my heart and
soul."
"Fox, we will always be together. For something to happen to
you, it would have to get past me first, and you know that's not easy to
do," she said grinning.
He gave a small laugh, and pulled her closer to him, resting his
chin atop her head. She slipped her arms around him, and laid her head
against his chest. He kissed her hair, and closed his eyes. They both
fell asleep in each other's embrace, content in knowing that if tommorow
never came, their love for each other would last an eternity.
