Chronos #1,000,000 - I've had very little exposure to this book up until now, but was pretty interested in what would happen for the DC 1,000,000 million tie in. It wasn't bad, but in the end it only showed how John Fox lost his time gauntlets. To the fan, I'm sure that this issue did a lot for the character, but to the casual reader, it didn't do much at all. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I can't say that it was that good.
Green Lantern #107 - A fun issue but there's something that really bothers me about it that I'll get to later. Hal gave Kyle a duplicate of his ring and told Kyle he'd know what to do with it. Kyle decides to go out into space and create a new GL Corps. Earth needs a GL to protect it while he's gone, so he offers it to Alan Scott, John Stewart and Guy Gardner, all of whom turn it down. He goes home and whines to Jade who suggests that maybe he could give her the ring. They go through some training, talk about their relationship, and then Kyle goes off to do whatever it takes to recreate the Corps. Here's the problem I have. Jade doesn't wear a mask, but is off adventuring as Green Lantern. Jade lives with Kyle Rayner, that's pretty common knowledge. Anyone who sees Kyle and Jade together, then Jade and the Green Lantern together has a pretty good chance at figuring it out in my opinion. I wonder if Kyle's going to make his identity public soon, I guess we'll see, because if he doesn't, someone else may.
Martian Manhunter #1 - I enjoyed this quite a bit and am probably going to pick up the series. In this issue, someone is stealing the bodies of homeless people and leaving there heads in the alleyways. Kind of gruesome. Batman may be the worlds greatest detective, but J'onn is pretty good in his own right, using his Martian abilities to get the answers he needs and taking the "investigation" right to the source. In this case, the source is an immoral scientist with good intentions. But we all know about the road to hell and good intentions. Does our hero succeed? Pick up the book and support one of DC's greatest characters, and find out!
Secret Origins 80 Page Giant #1 - If you're like me you thought that this was a combination of the Secret Files and Origins and the 80 Page giants, which it's not. I realized when I picked it up that Secret Origins was a comic that retold the origins of characters and hasn't been published for a while. The 80 Page Giant was devoted to the Secret Origins of the members of Young Justice and some of the upcoming members. The stories included: The Secret framing story, Impulse, Superboy, Robin, Spoiler, Wonder Girl and Arrowette. I rather enjoyed the telling of Wonder Girls origin, even though I don't like the character. I also really enjoyed the framing story which involves the Secret trying to figure out what to do with her life now that she's free of the DEO. The Impulse origin was written by Mark Waid and he's dropped a few more hints to the upcoming Chain Lightning story as well as some of the future of Impulse. It's almost a game now... Anyway, this is the BEST 80 Page Giant release so far.
Young Justice #3 - A group of evil computer hacker mages summon a young Mr. Mxyzptlk to our dimension. He behaves as a curious student and wants to simply learn all that there is to learn of our world. However, his methods come in conflict with the boys of Young Justice and they convince him not to plague Superman when he grows older (some interesting time paradox stuff, but when you're dealing with someone from the 5th dimension, time doesn't mean much). Unfortunately this causes a major problem, since the boys changed their own past, it created a temporal something or another. Basically things got really messed up. They boys had to convince Mxyzptlk to become the infernal prankster that will go on to plague Superman and set things back to normal. I really enjoy this book, and with this issue it started getting back to how the characters would really react in a given situation rather than go for the cheap laugh (of which there were plenty still).
