My Inline Hockey Cyber World
I began inline skating in 1994. Some friends and I all decided
to get blades at the same time. I started playing hockey almost
immediately--mostly pickup games with friends. A turning point
in my hockey "career" came when I moved to Atlanta in 1995.
Roller hockey is alive and well here. I found an outdoor hockey
rink. I'd never seen one before. I started skating there often.
I told friends about it and continued playing pick up games.
In the spring of 1997 I felt I was ready to join a league. I
started playing with a church league, but it never got off the
ground. So I decided to organize my own games. During the summer
our church youth group (The GYM) hosted weekly pickup games.
During one of the games, a Russian dude told me about a
rink less than two miles from my house. I couldn't believe it.
Now I live there! I practice there, play pickup games on Sundays
and have even referreed there. I have met a lot of people in
the past year through hockey.
In October 97 I joined my first hockey league and
volunteered to be the captain of the team, Team Voodoo. That
really means I just call everybody to remind them of the next
game. Our first season we were 4-5-1. Check the Team Voodoo
website to see how we are doing currently.
If you're interested in roller hockey and live in Atlanta
and want some hockey friends, let me know.
