Plot

The Enterprise docks at Starbase 74 for a refit. The maintenance crew, four Binars, program the antimatter containment to fail causing the crew to evacuate the ship in a panic. Meanwhile, Picard and Riker, in a Binar- enhanced program on the holodeck, are totally unaware of the situation. After the crew, except for Riker and Picard, leave the ship, the Binars hijack it to return to their home planet to save their computers from the effects of a supernova.

In-Jokes

  • The 11001001 is binary, and is converted to 201 decimal, or hex C9. Under the Z-80 microprocessor series (the Z-80 was used in the TRS-80 Model I, III, and IV, and for the sound processing in the Sega Genesis), the C9, in assembly language, is known as "Unconditional Return." In addition, on another machine language, 201 (decimal) corresponds to no valid machine instruction at all, which translates to a NOP (No Operation for 2 machine cycles).

Quotes

Worf: "If winning is not important, then Commander, why keep score?"
Riker: [What]
Yar: "I think he's pulling your leg. Believe it or not, Worf is developing a sense of humor."
Riker: "I hope so, for their sake."

Riker: "What's a knockout like you doing in a computer-generated gin-joint like this?"

Picard: "Is it so that the binars have stolen the Enterprise ?"
Computer: "That information is not availeble"

Computer: "Recognized Picard, Jean-Luc, Captain. Recognized Riker, William T., Commander."
Picard: "Set auto-destruct sequence."
Computer: "Does the first officer concur?"
Riker: "Set auto-destruct, now."
Computer: "Auto-destruct will detonate in four minutes and fifty-nine seconds."

Picard: "Cancel auto-destruct."
