Plot
The Enterprise is in route to pickup some samples of a deadly plaque, the
crew is relaxing when a glowing light appears outside the ship, nobody
notice it and it enters the ship, searches around until it finds Deanna Troi
and enters her body, she wakes up scared and puzzled. Meanwhile the ship
arrives at the planet that has suffered from a breakout of the deadly
desease, the medical leader of the place, Hester Dealt, beams onboard and
begins a carefull expection of the containment area. The new chief of
medical, Dr. Pulaski, gets enough to see to at her first day, she ofcourse
has to reviev the cargo that they are about to take on, but an examination
of Troi reveales that the encounter with the light has made results, Troi is
pregnant, but the pregnancy is not a standard one, it proceeds in a very
rapid rate. Pulaski and Data finishes looking over the sampels and they are
take aboard, and the Enterprise begins the travel to the medical research
station. On the way Troi gives birth to a boy, who continues to grow at a
remarkble rate, but at the same time one of the deadly samples begins to
grow inside the containment area and threatens to destroy all life on the
ship, the problem gets worse when Dealt explains that the sample may not be
dumped into space as it'll just go to a dormant state until it reaches a
ship or a planet. Pulaski uses the manifest to find the reason for the
growth, it appears to be a special form of radiation that's not supposed to
be on the ship, Data and Pulaski begins a race against time to find the
source. Meanwhile the child tells Troi that he is the reason for the danger
to the ship, and that he'll die to prevent any further risks, after that he
enters a coma, and Pulaski rushes to the quarters, only to beaten there by
Data, who discover that the child is in fact the source of the radiation
This episode introduced Dr. Kate Pulaski as the new Chief Medical Officer
and Ten-foreward with Guinan in charge, it also includes the difficult
choice for Wesley, should he stay on the Enterprise og leave to join his
mother.
