Plot

The Enterprise attempts to rescue two Earth colonies that left Earth in the mid-22nd century. The first colony, has rejected technology and returned back-to-nature. The ship carrying the second colony had apparently crash- landed and only five colonists survived. To keep their colony alive, they turned to cloning but are now in desperate need of new DNA. This episode is actually quite funny, especialy when one watches it more than once, but also rises some serious questions about cloning. However the fun starts out very early when Worf faints and has to stay at sick-bay for obsovation. Also Brenna is very fun to watch, she's just what should be descriped as a 'Woman' in the beginning of 19'th century..

Goofs

  • When Riker and his team are overpowered in the clone Prime Minister's office, Riker is rendered unconscious by a phaser set to stun. As he is being dragged off-scene, you see him look up at the camera just as he thinks he is out of the shot.

In-Jokes

  • When Picard is looking at the list of ships trying to find the Mariposa, another ship listed is the Buckaroo Banzai captained by John Whorfin and built by the company that the red Lectroids had made. The same company name was seen on the USS Hathaway (Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems (of Grover's Mill, NJ, where Orsen Well's "War Of The Worlds" radio play takes place :-) )

Quotes

Worf: "Klingons do not faint."

Pulaski: "Worf, I'm worried... something is wrong.. Klingons don't faint."
Worf: [Growls]
Pulaski: "I'm sorry, but I just can't find another word that fits... You're sick."
Worf: "Klingons do not given ill."

Worf: "How would Commander Riker feel if he had the measles?"
Pulaski: "....Pretty silly."

Data: "Mariposa, the spanish word for butterfly.."
Picard: "Thank you Data...."
Data: "I thought it might be segnificant....."
Picard: "Dosn't appear to be..."
Data: "No, Sir..."

Picard: "You can lear a lot about people from their luggage..... 225 Yoshamitsu Computers, 5 monitor beacon sattelites, 700 sealier comm-links, 50 spinningswheels, cattle, chickens, pigs.."

Pulaski: "Worf! You're a romantic!"
Worf: "It is among the Klingons that love poetry achieves its fullest flower."

Picard: "This is my security chief, Lieutenant Worf."
Danilo: "I don't suppose security is much of a problem for you."

Picard: "Set course for the nearest starbase"
Pulaski: "They were an agronistic culture, It'll be interesting to see how they cope"
Riker: "If Danilo is a marker, they'll be running this place inside of a week" [Alert beacon]
Worf: "Report"
Computer: "Fire in cargohold 7"
Picard: "What have they done to my ship *now*"

Danilo: "What the hell was that thing?"
Worf: "Automated fire system. A force field contains the flame until the remaining oxygen has been consumed."
Danilo: "Ah. What if I'd been under that thing?"
Worf: "You would have been standing in the fire."
Danilo: "Yeah, well, leaving that aside for the moment, I mean what would have happened to me?"
Worf: "You would have suffocated and died."
Danilo: "Yeah, ah...sweet mercy."

Brenna: "What are you staring at? Have you never seen a woman before?"
Riker: "I thought I had."

Picard: "Sometimes, Number One, you just have to...bow to the absurd."

[Brenna moves hay around]
Riker: "That isn't necessary. The ship will clean itself."
Brenna: "Well, good for the bloody ship."

[Brenna has asked Riker for a place for foot-washing.]
Brenna: "William, is something wrong?"
Riker: "What do you mean?"
Brenna: "Do you not like girls?"
Riker: "'Course I do........." [pause] "Oh, Is there a special technique to this foot-washing?"
Brenna: "You generally start at the top, and work your way down."
Riker: "I think I can handle that." [Kisses her]
Brenna: "Mmm. I was hoping you might."

Danilo: "Every moment of pleasure in life has to be purchased by an equal moment of pain."
[After some drinking]
Brenna: "*FATHER*"
Danilo: [To Worf] Remember I told you about those moments of pain in life, well they're about to begin."

[Having watched Brenna comandeer with her father]
Worf: "Madam, have you ever considered a career in security?"
Brenna: "If it's anything like baby-sitting, I'm an authority."

[Granger has asked to clon Riker.]
Riker: "It's not a question of harm. One William Riker is...unique, perhaps even special. But a hundred a him...a thousand of him... diminishes me in ways I can't even imagine."

[Having discovered the stealing of cells]
Riker: "We certainly have a right to exercise control over our own bodies."
Pulaski: "You'll get no argument from me."

Pulaski: "It's a match made in heaven."
Riker: "Unfortunately, it will have to be a shotgun wedding."

Granger: "For three hundred years we have denied the carnal side of our nature. How can we learn to put that aside?"
Danilo: "Eh, well, you...you put a young couple together...and...you let nature take its course."

Picard: "I must be out of my mind."
Pulaski: "Starfleet would probably agree with you."

Brenna: "...But it always falls to the women to make your grand plans come through.."
Picard: "You was the one who wanted a new home.."
Brenna: "Yes, but I'm not sure I want to be Eve..."
