Plot
While exploring a unknown planet, Riker is stabbed by a wine that infectes
him with a mysterious disease which prevents neural activity. Pualski finds
that the infection is spreading throught his body and when the infection
reaches his brain, he will die, to find more information Geordi and Data is
returning to the planet to get a sample of the wine, Geordi nearly falls to
the same destiny as Riker but they mannage to get hold of a sample.
Returning that to the Enterprise Data notice a great amount of
animal-fossils in the area, and suggests that the microbes and the wine has
a symbiotic relationship, the wines are predicessors and the microbes kills
warm-blooded creatures to feed the wine. Pulaski studies the microbes but
comes no closer to a solution as the microbes attaches themselves to the
nerves and can't be removed without destroying the nerves. When the
situation gets more critical, Pulaski is forced to begin to stimulate the
brain, this makes Riker dream, and those dreams appear to have an effect on
the microbes growth. With the aid of Troi, she begins to derterman what
emotions produces results, but along the way they try out to influence
erotic emotions, and that increases the growth. Later they discover that
strong negative emotions reduces the growth, and may be able to stop it
compleatly, the only problem remaining is it may be too late, becourse the
microbes has reached the brain and the vital signs of Riker has begun to
fail compleatly.
An episodes that appears a little cheap when one sees it for the first
time, most of it is made from clips from other episodes. However seeing it a
few times begins to realy show something about Riker's character, he is very
steady and calm as proven when he actualy jokes before droping into coma.
