Plot
Dr. Crusher falls in love with an alien ambassador who is much more than
he seems. His body is merely a host which lives in a symbiotic relationship
with a parasite-like creature - the actual being that is Odan. The ambassador
is going on a mission to mediate to prevent a war between two inhabitated
moons, uppon arrival to the planet, Odan states that he don't want to use
the transporters to get down, but prefers a shuttle, Riker chooses to pilot
the shuttle and they get underway. However they have only just left the
Enterprise when an unidentified vesel aproaches and opens fire, Riker tries
to evade but are hit anyway, and requests an emergency beamout to the
Enterprise, Odan refuses stating that it would kill him. Riker cancels and
pilots the shuttle back by hand. Back on the Enterprise Dr. Crusher discovers
the truth about Odan, but are unable to save the host-body. They call the
Trill's homeplanet and a neww host is sent imediatly, however the distance
gives some problems and the sumbiot is going to die before the new host can
arrive. Riker decides to voulenteer to carry Odan until the host arrives, and
to try and get through the negotiations. The implant works to begin with, but
Crusher gets serious emotional problems, becouse she loves Odan, who is now
back in the shape of a good friend of hers. As Odan begins to conduct the
negotiations it begins to show that the combination with Riker as host is
not working as it should. Riker's body tries to get rid of the intruder, causing
great pain. Odan tries to get through the talks, but asks to be removed as
soon as they are complete in order to save Riker from permanent damage, even
if it should couse Odan's death. The talks turns out to become a sucess, and
Crusher keeps her word and removes Odan, but the ship with the new host has
been delayed and the Enterprise rushes to intercept it to save the life of
Odan. Dr. Crusher has made up her mind that she loves Odan no matter if he's
in Riker's body or not, but when the new host arrives Crusher gets quite a
surprise, it's a woman.
