Plot

After the Enterprise-D was destroyed a new ship has been build, proberly the most advanced starship ever, however it's a bit smaler than the old one, the crew is almost identical except Mr. Worf who has been given his own command.
Problems arise when it's reported that the Borg are on the way to earth, but starfleet command orders the new Enterprise-E to patrol the neutral zone, simply becouse they are afraid of Picard's relations to the borg. Picard and the rest of the crew obeys orders but only until they hear that the fleet is in trouble then they rush back to battle. The commanding officer of the fleet was killed along with the flagship, so Picard takes control of the fleet, after rescuing Worf from his dammaged ship, the fleet enters a final strike at the Borg vessel that destroyes the Borg, but a small ship leaves just before the explosion. In quickly persuit, the Enterprise discovers that the Borg are preparing for a Time-travel, they folow the Borg in and discovers that history are changing around them. Now the earth is inhabited by 9 million... Borgs, they go further back to the day before the first warp-flight was done, this flight was monitored by a Vulcan ship, and opened the posibility for a peacefull earth, and the Borg are now going to prevent that.
After arriving in the past, The Enterprise easily destroyes the Borg ship, while the crew beams down to check the damage on earth, the Enterprise begins to get problems with the enviomential controles, they are not working. While investigating the crew discovers that the Borg Queen has beamed on board before they were destroyed, and they are now assimilating the crew of the Enterprise to get more power. Simple atemps to fight them enter in disaster, meanwhile Picard returns with an injured person from earth, Lily Sloane, but when sickbay has to be evacuated, she leaves the group to try and save herselve, that quickly turns around when Picard convinces her that she is on board a starship. To add to the problem Data has been captured by the Borg, and they are trying to make him work along with them. On Earth Riker and Troi searches for Cochrane, who's the one to fly the warp-flight, Troi meets with him, but he manages to get very drunk before she gets through to him. Riker and LaForge convinces him to make the flight for the sake of humanity and decides to help him repair the warp-ship after the Borg attack.
Picard manages to get a memorychip from a dead Borg, and finds that the Borg is atempting to build a transmitter to send for Borg assistance, Picard and Worf destroyes that plan, and the Borg speed their takeover of the Enterprise, Picard decides to fight to the end, but Sloane talks some reasoning into him and he sets an autodestruct sequence. But when it's time to leave Picard is not going anywhere, he explains to Sloane that he's going to save Data, that turns out to be quite a shock, couse Data has been assimilated and are now serving the Borg, as mate for the Queen, with Picard watching she orders Data to cancel the autodestruct, then to access the main computer. Finaly she orders Data to launch torpeedos against the warpship, he does that, but the torpeedos does not hit the ship. Data then realeases a gas that is fatal to all biological life, Picard manages to escape by climing some tubes, but all the Borgs are killed, and the warp flight is a success. And when the Vulcan ship approaches the Earth, the Enterprise crew just need a way to get back into their own time.

  • For inspiration prior to filming, director 'Jonathan Frakes' says he viewed the films "Alien", "Aliens", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Blade Runner" and "Jaws".
  • When Picard sends the attack coordinates on the Borg cube to the fleet, the voice which responds for the USS Bozeman is that of 'Kelsey Grammer', who played the Captain of that ship in the episode "Cause and effect".

Quotes

Data: "I think I speak on behalf of the entire crew when I say 'To hell with our orders.'"

Worf: "Perhaps today is a good day to die..."

Riker: "Tough little ship."
Worf: "Little?"

Riker: "Mr. Worf, you remember how to fire phasers?"

Sloane: "Borg? Sounds Swedish."

[After having seen the Borg]
Sloane: "Definitely not Swedish."

Picard: "Reports of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated."

Sloane: "It's my first ray gun."

[Picard and Lily are looking at earth from space]
Picard: "You may want to hold your breath. It's a long way down."

Riker: "Someone once said 'Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgement.'"
Cochrane: "That's rhetorical nonsense. Who said that?"
Riker: "You did, ten years from now."

[Data is feeling anxiety as they approach the Borg.]
Picard: "I suggest you deactivate your emotion chip for now."
Data: [click] "Done."
Picard: "Data, there are times when I envy you."

Picard: "We are not going to lose the Enterprise. Not to the Borg. Not while I'm in command."

Picard: "Mr. Worf, do you remember your zero g combat training?"
Worf: "I remember how it made me sick to my stomach."

Worf: "Assimilate THIS....."

Borg Queen: "Do you always talk this much?"
Data: "Not always. But often."

Cochrane: "You're all astronauts, on some kind of star trek."

Cochrane: "Okey, this is the good stuff.." [pours drink for Troi]
Troi: [Chockes]
Cochrane: "Hmm. That wasn't so good after all.." [Throws bottle away]

Troi: [Drunk] "This is no time to argue about time. We don't have the time!"

Troi: [Very drunk] "He wouldn't even talk to me unless I had a drink with him. Then he made me drink three shots of something called "tequila" before he would tell me who he was."

The Doctor: "I'm a doctor, not a doorstop."

Picard: "They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn HERE. This far NO farther. And I will make them pay for what they've done."

Beverly: "So much for the Enterprise-E."
Picard: "We barely knew her."
Beverly: "Do you think they'll make another one?"
Picard: "Plenty of letters left in the alphabet."

Borg Queen: "I am the beginning and the end. I bring order into chaos."

Borg Queen: "Watch your future's end."

Borg Queen: "You are an imperfect being, created by an imperfect being."
Data: "You mean sexuality? I am fully functional. Programmed with multiple techniques."

Picard: "You want to destroy the ship and run away, you coward."
Worf: "If you were any other man, I would kill you where you stand."

Lily: "You broke your little ships."

Borg Queen: "DATA !?!?!?!"
Data: "Resistance is futile...."

Picard: "Data, Are you allright ??"
Data: "I proberly look a lot worse than I .......Feel, sir...."

Data: "And for a time, I was tempted by her offer."
Picard: "How long a time?"
Data: "0.68 seconds sir. For an android, that is nearly an eternity."
