Power Play
Part 5:  Forgotten Faces

What did Namor say?! thought Daredevil.  When he and his impromptu teammates had watched the death of Namor, he was the only one who had an inkling of what Namor had said to his murderer.  Furball?  Okay, I know it starts with an 'f'.  Gotta think it through!

Below Daredevil was Eugene "Puck" Milton Judd, and Donald Blake, riding on a motorcycle.  Puck was also thinking about the events he had seen in the Orb of Agamotto.  Didn't learn how to lip-read for nothin'!  Time to figure this out.  That guy that killed the Torch said somethin' to him.  Starts with an 'i', I think.

"Patrol 'bots up ahead!  Two of them!" called Daredevil from above.  It amazed Puck how well Daredevil was keeping pace with them.  Dr. Strange could fly, and he and Blake were on a motorcycle, but Daredevil was keeping up by swinging on a cord.  Albeit they weren't going as fast as they could, but it was still a good clip.

"Leave them for me," said Doctor Strange in their minds.  Strange could transport himself into the astral plane, it only made sense that he could send his thoughts through it as well.  He might not have the range of someone like Charles Xavier did, but he got by.

Dr. Strange accelerated, and left the three behind.  "You up for a bit more speed, Daredevil?!" called Blake.

"Was wondering when you guys would stop going so slow!  Give it the gas!" Daredevil replied even as he began to speed up.  Blake applied more pressure to the accelerator, and within a minute or so they reached Dr. Strange.  The remains of the robots lay on the streets, yet nobody had opened their windows to see it happen.

They're too scared to open their windows, thought Puck.  But not for long!  Blake made a skid stop by Strange, and Daredevil dropped out of the sky to land by them.  "Didn't take you long, Doc," commented Puck.

"We have no time to waste.  I did what I had to, as I hope you will be ready to do," replied Strange, even as he glanced at the sky.  "We must move quickly, or we'll lose the cover of the night."

Puck cracked his knuckles.  "Then let's get a move on, eh?"

A figure paced around a small room.  On the monitors on the left wall he had seen Dr. Strange destroy two of his patrol robots.  "I think it's time I got involved," he said aloud.

"Yes, it is."  The voice came from above the man.  Slowly, a man descended down the stairs, a cloak obscuring his features.  "These 'heroes' are out to destroy you.  Will you let them?!" he thundered.

"No!  I won't!"  The man pacing shouted, and headed for a control panel.  He barked a command into a microphone.

"Release the Dreadnaughts!"

Good Lord, what am I doing!  I've got to stop this before they're killed!  They're the world's only hope!  I will break free!  I am S-

"The Master's stronghold is there.  When we get inside, Judd and Blake will search for Mjolnir.  Daredevil and I will search for the Master," said Strange as he touched down next to Puck and Blake.  Daredevil descended from the sky, landing soft as a feather.

"How will we get inside?" asked Blake as he dismounted from the motorcycle.

"Leave that to me," said Strange.  He began to chant a spell, and made a gesture.  The wall before them disappeared, and a green glow filled the air.  "Now, quickly!"

Once the quartet were inside, they parted ways.  Puck and Blake chose to skulk through the air ducts.  Now, what was that the murderer said to the Torch!  Starts with an 'i', Puck thought as Blake led the way.  Imp-

"Wake up, Puck!  Look down there!" whispered Blake hurriedly.  Puck looked through the grating.

There, on a metallic pedestal, was Mjolnir.

"Here's the plan.  You get the hammer, and I'll hold back those sentries," said Puck.  "Don't get dead, eh?"

"Wouldn't dream of it.  Let's go!" replied Blake as Puck crashed through the grating.  Klaxons began to wail, and the sentries advanced towards Puck.

"C'mon, you rustpots!  Time to test your aim, eh?" shouted Puck as he danced through a spray of plasma fire.  He lured them to the far end of the room, as far away from Mjolnir as he could get.

Interesting.  The Master managed to prevent Mjolnir from reverting to its form of my cane.  He must be trying to harness its power, and can only succeed in keeping it in this form, thought Blake.  He raced to the pedestal, and fell back as an energy shield formed.

Blast!  A forcefield.  How contrived.  I have to break through it!

"Any time now, Don!" cried Puck as he bounced around evading the sentry robots.  Already he had managed to destroy two, but there were several more.

Blake pushed against the forcefield, and found the more he pushed, the more the energy intensed, yet it seemed to give a little, like it wasn't completely solid.  This might sting a bit! he thought as he plunged into the field.  The energy intensed, and became very painful.  I'm not going to make it!

"C'mon, Tinman!  Hit me!" taunted Puck as he leaped over a plasma blast.  Unfortunately for Puck, the robot slammed it's massive fist into Puck's gut, driving him into the wall.

The robot leveled it's plasma rifle at Puck, and began to squeeze the trigger.  An object from across the room struck it, and smashed through it.  Then it returned to the other side of the room.

The sentries looked behind them at  the object's wielder.

"Halt, base robots!  Feel the wrath of Thor, God of Thunder!!!"

After leaving Puck and Blake behind, Dr. Strange and Daredevil moved silently through the Master's stronghold, an invisibility spell from Strange hiding them from sight.  Daredevil continued to ponder what the murderer had said to Namor.

What could it be?!  Frustrated, Daredevil replayed what he had heard in his mind.  Fireb-

Daredevil's radar sense had alerted him to five constructs approaching them.  Assuming they would not see them, Daredevil was unalarmed until ten flame projecting hands aimed at himself and Strange and fired.

Daredevil leaped out of the way, at the same time wishing he could see Dr. Strange.  He hadn't had time to shout a warning, and pushing him out of the way was out of the question, since he couldn't see him.

Then he spotted him.  He must have lost his concentration, stopped the spell.  Assured his comrade was all right, Daredevil concentrated on the constructs.  Hmm, sophisticated sound technology.  They must have heard our breathing.

The flames once again fired, half at Daredevil, half at Dr. Strange.  Strange created a mystic forcefield to deflect it, and Daredevil simply leaped out of the way.

Wait, I recognize that etching in the robots arms!  Those are Dreadnaughts! thought Daredevil.  Taking the offensive, Daredevil charged at the Dreadnaughts.  He acrobatically avoided some plasma blasts, and then had to leap high out of the way to avoid some type of pellet.

Daredevil's super-sense of smell alerted him to what it was instantly.  Gas!  Quickly, Daredevil tore a piece of his costume and tied it over his face.  Strange, on the other hand, hadn't had time to cast a spell to save himself.  The gas took effect quickly, and Strange was out.

Great!  How am I supposed to stop these things?! thought an alarmed Daredevil.  He dodged some more plasma fire, and then one grazed him.  He went down, and then managed to struggle to his feet.

"Away from the hornheaded one, evil constructs, or thou shalt face the fury of the God of Thunder!" boomed a voice down the corridor.  Daredevil turned to see Thor flying straight for the Dreadnaughts with Puck hanging on to Thor's cape for dear life.

As Thor engaged the robots, Puck let go of the cape and dropped down next to Daredevil.  "You all right?" he asked as he helped Daredevil up.

"I'll be fine!  Where's Strange?!" cried Daredevil.

"You mean he ain't with you?" asked Puck quickly.

"They gassed him, and I guess they hauled him away.  We've got to find him!" Daredevil declared.

Thor had finished destroying the Dreadnaughts, and he called to his allies, "Come, my friends, and we shall smite this Master!"

"But Thor, we've got to find Dr. Strange!" said Daredevil as he and Puck raced towards Thor.

"But how?" asked Puck as they stopped in front of Thor.

"Wait a minute," said Daredevil as he cast his radar sense as far as he could.  There, three floors up, was Strange.  "He's three floors above us!  It'll take forever to get there with those Dreadnaughts all over the place!"

"Fear not, my comrades, we shalt be there in but a moment!"  Thor threw Mjolnir, and instantly grabbed the leather thong hanging from the end.  The hammer propelled Thor through the roof, and each level until he reached Dr. Strange's location.

Daredevil fired his billy club upwards, and then he and Puck quickly climbed up it.  When they were one floor away when they heard Thor bellow, "I say thee nay, not you!!"
