| Ship's Shrine: |
|
The Ship's Shrine is a place of honor and worship on board a Klingon vessel. Klingon High Council directives require all cruisers to maintain a shrine when operating in the Delta Quadrant as a reminder of their heritage. A priest, adept or initiate is assigned as caretaker of the shrine. In addition to displaying traditional Klingon items, each ship displays trophies, honors and conquests in the shrine. Opposite the Shrine's only entrance is a dais, whose steps lead to the ritual fire pit. On the wall ehind this is a painting titled, ghochwI' (The Tracker) which is the constellation that Kahless pointed to when he said "I'll be there". Along the wall to the left is a replica of the famous sculpture titled, ghobchuq loDnI'pu' (The Brothers Fight One Another). It depicts the epic tale of Kahless, in which he fought his brother, Morath, for 12 days and 12 nights because Morath had lied and brought shame to his family. Klingons believe that warriors who die honorably join Kahless, who awaits them in Sto'Vo'Kor, the afterlife. Six 'oy'naq, painsticks, hang in a wall case directly above it. Along the wall to the right is a sculpture titled, 'Ip'Iw (Blood Oath) which depicts two Warriors performing the Klingon blood oath. Over this hangs a quv bey' (Honor Display), holding 2 Bat'leth and 2 Daqtagh for ritual duels. Banners are hung from the ceiling over the dais. The central, highest banner, traditionally represents the Klingon Empire, though in the Delta Quadrant the joint Imperial/Starfleet symbol flies here. To the weapon hand of the dais (right if standing on the dais and facing the room) is the Commanding Officer's House banner (Qoram HoD, house of Straqmor). On the other side hangs the banner of the Shrine's caretaker (House of bI''oq, priest of Sul'eyng, order of Kahless). |
