This is the main song played by Jabba the Hutt's palace band (Sy Snootles, lead vocalist) in Jedi. The
palace scenes are in many ways a return to the cantina local of Star Wars, full of wild, alien creatures,
and the music is likewise. Where the cantina band songs have their roots in jazz, however, Lapti Nek is
more of a pop/disco piece, to which Jabba's dancers entertain the slug-like gangster. In the film, one
dancer, Oola, protests, and Jabba dispenses with her down a trap door to the rancor cave, which Luke
will fall into later.
This recording of "Lapti Nek" is not the one that appears in the film, but both
versions share Huttese lyrics by Anne Arbogast, based on the original English lyrics by Joseph
Williams, the composers son.
