The Nth Doctor
Book

The answers to these questions have been shrouded in secrecy - until now.

Over the last twenty years, several different companies have had options to produce a Doctor Who movie - including Green Light Productions, Lumiere Films, Amblin Entertainment and BBC Worldwide. Only one reached the screen, but five came close. Intense speculation surrounds the details of these productions - and the show's seven year absence only served to heighten the interest.

Here, for the first time, is an in-depth exploration of the films that almost were, including detailed plot sypnoses and extracts from the scripts themselves. The Nth Doctor gives a detailed breakdown of each script from the circumstances of its' creation to the reasons why it was never made, featuring interviews with writers and exploring the roles and input of the various big names assoicated with each - men such as Stephen Spielberg, Leonard Nimoy and Philip Segal.

By 1980, Doctor Who had established itself as the longest running sci-fi series in the world, had just begun to conquer America and had one of the most popular incarnations of the Doctor in the shape of Tom Baker. As the 80s went on, however the show became fraught with difficulties both internally and externally. In 1989 the show that had established itself as a national institution was cancelled. It was to be seven years before a new Doctor Who story was made for television; its' broadcast in May 1996 provoked considerable media interest. So what went wrong?
