The Porters of Windsor, CT, and later Stratford, CT, commonly confused with the Porters of Hartford & Farmington.

- Margaret Porter (1593-1648)
- John Porter

My 11th Great Grandfather, John Porter.
Born c. Jun 1594 in Felsted, Essex, England. Married 18 Oct. 1620 All Saints, Shalford, Essex, England to Rosanna/Rose White (c. Jul 1600 Shalford, Essex, Eng-Jul 1647 PJ or 11 May 1647 Windsor, CT SC, dau. Robert White & Bridget Alger). Died 21 Apr 1648 in Windsor, River Colony [CT].
Savage has that he was one of Windsor's earliest settlers, 1638, accompaning Rev. Ephraim Hewett and bringing his 8 children, having last two children at Windsor. nam. by Goodwin, constable 1640, rep. 1646 and 7.
His will left £100 to his eldest son John, £ to his second eldest James, and £30 each to sons Samuel & Nathaniel, daughter Rebecca, widow Rose, and daughters Mary and Ann, but this will was not carried to court till June of the following year. His widow was buried 20 days after him.
Ten Children:
- Ann Porter (1621-1653), m. William Gaylord
- John Porter (1621/2-1688), m. Mary Stanley/Standley
- Sarah Porter (1623/4-1695/6), m. Joseph Judson
- Rebecca Porter (1630-1681/2), m. John Clark
- James or Samuel Porter (1632-1689), m. Hannah Stanley

- Joseph Porter (1643-?)
- Mary Porter (1637-1681), m. Samuel Grant
- Nathaniel Porter
- Ann or Hannah Porter (1642-?), m. John Coleman
SC also has a James Porter (1638-1727) who m. Sarah Tudor but Savage has this James as son of John Porter & Mary Standley (above). SC also has Thomas Porter (1621-1697) who m. Sarah Hart but Savage has this as Thomas Porter of Hartford who rem. to Farmington, and no known relation to the Porters of Windsor, the parents of the Mary Porter who married Joseph Royce and Joseph Langdon.
My 10th Great Grandfather, Nathaniel Porter.
Born 19 July 1640 at Windsor, River Colony [CT]. Baptized 19 Jul 1640 at Windsor, River Colony [CT]. Married 1st 1664 in Stratford, New Haven Colony(?) to Hannah Groves in 1664 (she 1640-1671, dau. of Philip Groves). Married 2nd c. 1673 at Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut Colony to Elizabeth Baldwin. Died 14 Jan. 1679/80 at Stratford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut Colony.
Freeman of Stratford by 1669.
Savage has that Elizabeth Baldwin is actually Elizabeth Groves, sister of Hannah Groves.
SC has birth 29 Feb. 1639/40 at Windsor, CT.
Seven Children:
3 with Hannah Groves:
- Hannah Porter (1665-1737/8), m. Zachariah Curtis
- Sarah Porter (1667-1738), m. Nathaniel Beach
- Ruth Porter (1669-1739), m. Ebenezer Curtis
1 child, sources disagree as to with which wife:
- Nathaniel Porter (1672-1727), m. 1st Rebecca Wheeler, 2nd Mary Odell, 3rd Ruth Woodruff, 4th Joanna Smith
3 children with Elizabeth Baldwin:
- John Porter (1674/3-1736), m. Hannah Peck
- Samuel Porter (1675-?), some sources say died soon, others say m. Mary ?
- Mary Porter
My 9th Great Grandmother, Mary Porter.
Born 28 Feb 1677 at Stratford, Fairfield Co., Connecticut Colony. Married 2 Jun. 1692 in Wallingford, New Haven Co., Connecticut Colony to Deacon Robert Royce. Died 11 Mar. 1758 at Wallingford, New Haven Co., Connecticut Colony.
SC has her born 22 Feb 1676/7 at Farmington, CT, dying 11 mar 1759 in Wallingford, CT and has her with a second marriage to Joseph Langton after his first wife, Susanna Root died, but it appears that Deacon Robert Royce outlived Mary Porter. SC also has that Mary Porter is the daughter of Thomas Porter and Sarah Hart. It seems SC has her confused with the Mary Porter, daughter of Thomas Porter of the Hartford -> Farmington Porters (no known relation).

- Nathaniel Royce (1693-1694)
