Chaos Space Marine Assault Bike
After reading the article in White Dwarf about Space Marine Assault Bikes, I found my mind already racing, trying to work out how to convert one. I just had to have one....
A few weeks later, I bought 2 normal Chaos Bikes. I was suprised when I opened the box to see that the metal components were packaged in a blister... and the entire space marine bike was still there. After assembling and painting these, I came up with a devious plan to make a Chaos Space Marine Assault Bike. By using 2 of these metal part blisters, I could Convert a Space Marine Assault Bike so I could use it in my Chaos force. But first the hard part, getting 2 blisters.
If your one of the lucky million people and live in or near the U.K. I guess this part is easy for you. With England's mail-order service, I figure you can probably get these individually. But, me, I don't particularly enjoy paying 50% + postage fee. Anyway, all you need for this stage is a friend who uses a Space Marine (Infidels!! uh, sorry), and the ability to do deals. All you need to do is convince your friend to buy 2 bikes himself. You then have to convince him to buy Chaos bikes instead, and you will pay him/her for the metal part. You really have to make it worth their while, as they will miss out on transfers and banners etc., probably by adding a few extra dollars or something similar (I bought my friend lunch at McDonalds). Anyway, finally I had my blisters...
The next part is really quite similar. By using the components in place of the normal ones (might need a bit of chopping) you can make it look quite good. The marines have to replaced with the Chaos ones rom your newly acquired blister. This is a simple thing to do with the rider, but you may find the gunner a little tricky. He has to be stuck on, and to try to make him posed properly is quite difficult. All you then need are the scythes, and guns and covers... and a few interesting dabs of paint to finish it off.
I will soon buy 2 more bikes, and have a perfect bike squadron. I can see it now, 4 Bikes, speeding along in perfect echelon, with the Assault Bike protected in the pocket behind them, cutting (major White Dwarf cliche coming up) a bloody swathe through the enemy (how many times have they said that anyway... if anyone knows, please mail me, and I will put you on my front page!)
