Michael´s 40th Birthday

************* FIELD REPORT LONDON *******************

Michael Jackson ´s 40 th Birthday August 29th, 1998

Weeks, no, months before Michael would become 40, we made our plans to celebrate this special day.
As soon as we found out that MJNI would organise a Birthday Bash in London, U.K., we ordered tickets for the whole family!
All the incoming new KING! Issues were spelled out to read all about the Bash-plans and we prepared ourselves by going to the hairdresser, *lol, buying new clothes and making arrangements with other chatters from MJIFC, to meet up in London!!
We planned to see Fedora, Suzie, Blood, GS, Monica and Ella, Gavinthain, maybe Jasmin and Debbie.

Wednesday, August 26th.

03.00 am : We woke up after a short night sleep (because our website went down and was blocked, PANIC!!), but we were not too tired when we woke up. Packed the stuff and drove to Rotterdam airport. Our flight was at 07.10 and for the kids it was the first time on a plane, so they were very excited and nervous!! We arrived on London Heathrow Airport, found the underground and arrived in our very English hotel!! The receptionist looked up a bit strange when he saw our MJ t-shirts, but we are used to that!!
11.00 am : We were all settled in our huge rooms, the kids had their own suite!! Now we were ready for some MJ shopping in the city centre. Bond Street, Regent Street, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus. MJ CD´s were available at Tower Records, the shop where Michael buys his CD´s himself!! We have spent all day in the city, buying badges, photo´s, CD´s..it was fun!! Every now and then we had a bite to eat (at Donut and Co, and in The Rock Garden, great Mexican meals there!!) or a drink.. Talked to every salesman or -woman in the shops about MJ having his birthday!
22.30 : As usual Papa Bear and Dirty Diana Oh..no.. ended up in the hotel bar !!!!, for a few beers and Campari-orange. The kids were glad to go to sleep in their luxury suite, with couch, rockingchairs, TV set, writing desk and tea-facilities!

Thursday, August 27th.

Breakfast with roomservice, what a DD life!!! Ha ha…. Today we tried to find Sega World, because we wanted to be sure to be on the right place tomorrow, because it is our meeting point with the fans!!

So we shopped again..took a sight-seeing bus through London, saw all the famous places, we went to St. Paul´s Cathedral because of the happy memories we have there and went to Rock Circus to see our Michael!!!! He was there, singing Billie Jean, a bit skinny, but ok for some pictures !!! Romy kissed him on the lips, I caressed his hair, hee hee!
We also made a with Janet, she was a good look-alike! The Rock Circus shop was a dream come true for every MJ fan, but very expensive!!! But I could not resist a huge badge for my livingroom-wall! After a Greek Pita sandwich we left the city, back to the hotel, to get a beauty sleep before the fanmeeting the next day!!

Friday, August 28th.

We woke up, a bit too late, a bit nervous. Quick breakfast and then to Sega World. There were Suzie and Fedora waiting for us, with huge smiles when they saw this funny bunch walking towards them!! Now the real HUGS were there!!! A few minutes later we also met GS, Blood, Monica, Ella, Princess (I hope I am not forgetting anyone now). They were all so nice and friendly, and everyone was dressed with an MJ t-shirt, some of them had banners for Michael´s birthday, flags with cute MJ pics. This family was carrying a real Soundblaster with Mj tapes...we also had badges with our chatnames and the MJ logo from this website. Well, The Michael Jackson Ride in Sega World was closed!!! It was OVERHEATED!!! LOL!!!! But 2 bad for us because we traveled so far to enjoy it. We walked through the city, singing MJ music, in the tube too, all singing YANA on the Are You Nuts Volume!!! Then I decided to take a chance and ask if we could attend the rehearsing of the birthday BASH in the Equinox Disco. Now that is something none of us regretted!! Paul Brangwyn gave us 1 hour to see rehearsals, meet MJ look-alikes, meet the USA fanclub President, meet Robin from MJNI...! It was great! Sky News was filming there too and asked a few of us for intervieuws!! (was shown on SKY News Saturday the 29th, at 08.00, hope Michael saw us!!).
The Fan Bunch chatted and sang all day, we shopped on Covent Garden and Oxford Street... We went to Virgin Mega Store, Tower Records, HMV records. We had a bite in Radio Café at Leicester Square, with some good MJ tunes!!!! Special Music-Requests for Michael´s birthday from all of us!
Rumours told us Wayne (and/or Michael) was in the Carlton Hotel in London...and YEP, we went there too! We waited for 1 hour, in the dark night, watching limo´s driving up...but no Michael And no Wayne, 2 bad! Peter acted like a real BODYGUARD, talking to the doorman of the hotel, watching the parking places...no luck!!
Tired we all went to our beds...ready for the BASH!!

Saturday, August 29th, 1998. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL!!!!!!!!!

Waking up on a day like this is strange when you are not home...I opened my eyes, saw the Victorian room, my Michael t-shirts on the couch, the new badges and chains...I knew it!!! It was Michael´s 40th birthday!!
As fast as we could we went to Leicester Square and we were amazed by the long queue in front of the Equinox Disco Theatre!! Wow, all those fans, all those look alikes dancing in the street, at 09.30 in the morning!!! TV-crew, radio-people, camera´s, it looked like Michael himself would be there!!
We entered the theatre at 10.15 am and very soon the first movie started on the Big Screen in front of us. We had seated tickets for the 5th row, GREAT!! To warm us op Robin from MJNI talked to us (he really LOVES Michael, he is adorable! Thanks Robin!), the show started with dance-groups and MJ look-alikes, all very good!! I am sure the new KING! Issue will show you their pictures, because unfortunately ours were too dark.
MOONWALKER on a big screen is an awesome experience...the sounds, the music, Michael´s sweet, laughing face that HUGE....WOW!!!
We really enjoyed it!! With 10 minutes for a drink (no time to eat!) the second part of the day began. New performances, new video material from Sony music. We saw parts of the Dangerous Tour, HIStory Tour, the complete Bad video (so cute, Michael in a wintercoat with that big bag!), Michael visiting Bremen, Michael in Phantasialand (The MJ Thrill Ride, we were there too, see the family pictures on this website!), but the best vid I remember seeing was The Making Of Stranger in Moscow. A wet Michael, teased by the camera-people, annoyed by a fan wanting pictures so badly, but always friendly, with a smile, making jokes, touching the make-up girls.........LOL!
Now it was time for the BirthdayCake and the song we sang with a childrens-gospelchoir: Happy Birthday Michael....(like in Happy Birthday Lisa, the Simpsons)!!! Great atmosphere, we love you Michael!
After the videoshow we could all admire the talent of NAVY, the best MJ look-alike in the UK. It was like Michael was really there, in his Gold Pants....and singing You Are Not Alone....tears in our eyes, good memories!!! Thank you so much NAVY!!

And then Robin had the HUGE SURPRISE >> that morning a FAX arrived at Equinox, from Michael himself, signed by Michael Jackson himself!!! We were all so excited, but finally Robin read it to us:

Michael Jackson

MJNI started the MJ disco and we were relieved to get something to eat and drink, it was 1800 pm and we were starving!!! We danced, admired the merchandise, bought a very expensive MJ mouse pad, but soooooooo cute!! And then we met Gavinthain in the bar, and also Honeysuckle, both from MJIFC chatroom. We had a good time there, showed photo´s, made some jokes, had a pint, great!!

At the end of the BASH we thanked Gloria and Paul, said goodbye to Fedora, Suzie and all the others, walked outside right into another MJ look-alike from Holland. We bought a bootleg CD from him, no I won´t tell which one, but be sure it is GREAT!!!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THIS GREAT EVENT, THE MICHAEL-FEELING WE SHARED ON THIS SPECIAL DAY!!!!!

Back in the hotel we could not get enough : the BBC 2 showed us Michael Jackson at 40.............what a fantastic way to end this day!

Sunday, August 30th.

Very tired, really broken, we walked a bit around the hotel, found a small market and yes....MJ tapes for sale, old vinyls too!!! Wow!!
We packed our bags, thanked the hotelmanager, who is an MJ fan now too, believe me!!! And we left, our flight back home was waiting.

WHAT A WAY TO BECOME 40 MICHAEL, WHEN THE WORLD CELEBRATES YOUR BIRTHDAY!!

WE LOVE YOU, MICHAEL!

HEAL THE WORLD!
