The Moon

I once was aligned with the moon.
She and I waxed and waned together
Like some sort of secret
The two of us only knew.
We shared everything.
I under my covers at night,
She’d come to my window
And whisper dreams into my head
That sparkled my mind.
When she was happy, so was I.
Sometimes I’d tell her my thoughts,
And she’d tell me her own;
They always matched.
She’d look down and wink at me.
We were best friends,
We were one.
But then one day I forgot about her,
And followed my own earthly desires.
Our days no longer did line up,
And she and I lost touch.
I began to feel pain,
And a lost sense of direction.
When I look at her now, she is a stranger.
