The city of London, England, is divided up into 32 'boroughs'. Broadly speaking, these are areas which have their own local government. Enfield is the northernmost borough of London. Before Enfield effectively became a part of London, it was in the county of Middlesex and retains this identity in its postal address.

Enfield's claims to fame:

• The world's first hole-in-the-wall cash machine was installed at Barclay's Bank in Enfield on June 27th, 1967. The bank is the brown building on the right, above. A plaque now commemorates the spot outside the bank.
• The world's first solid state circuitry colour televisions were manufactured by the Ferguson company at their plant in Enfield.
