" - SKALA- Le Fantome de l'opera / The Phantom of the Opera
This is a single from 1992 with Skala's(a belgian group?) own
creation of the Phantom of the Opera. Looking at the back of the singleis
a picture of Skala . It shows three african american young man dressed
in rapper style and one caucasian young man dressed as the phantom. It
says the single is produced, written and composed by Mike Fast and John
Hurry. With special thanks to: Tkae - Kid Nice - swift - Marvin - Frederic
- Lorenzo & William. The a side is the song in french and the b side
is the song in english. The style is that of 2unlimited (happy house???)
some slight rap and classic opera songs (sung by opera singers)

This
single was made in 1986 and mentions on the front : from the forth
comming musical. Shortly afterwards was decided that not Steve Harley would
play Phantom but Michael Crawford. The single features the overture and
Phantom of the Opera, in a kind of rock version. The lines were different
on some places and were written by Richard Stilgoe only (later Charles
Hart was added to the team). I got this one for my birthday when we found
it in a second hand record market. An other remarkable thing of this single
is is that at the back one finds a note it says: "2nd january MCMLXXVI,
Ladies and Gentlemen, ON this recording I have requested that Sarah Brightman
and Steve Harley perform the theme from the forth comming musical which
I have instructed Andrew Lloyd Webber to write around my legend 'the Phantom
of the Opera', your obidient servant, The Phantom" Nice touch isnt it?

Phantom
of the Opera with Robert Englund (1989 Film)
After having much patience (waiting until one came along which I won for the price I had m mind) I obtained it on Ebay.

Broadway’s Fabulous Phantoms, was to be released nationwide by Rhino
Records/Warner Strategic Markets on April 26, 2005.
Broadway’s Fabulous Phantoms contains eleven vocalists, including
the original and Tony award-winning Phantom, Michael Crawford; the longest
running Broadway Phantom and Tony nominee, Howard McGillin; the Phantom
playing the most performances in the US (Broadway, LA, and San Francisco),
Davis Gaines; and the current stunning Phantom, Hugh Panaro.
Many audience members never have had the opportunity to see and hear
this group of Phantom performers unencumbered by the many challenges of
the
Phantom role including two wigs, painted prosthetics, and a fiberglass
mask. They are a collection of actors/singers with talents ranging across
many styles and genres. In addition to Broadway, they are in great demand
as concert artists throughout the world.
The repertoire consists of timeless standards, favorites from Broadway
shows, and new songs from exciting new composers. It's a array of vocal
talent and repertoire appealing to Broadway, musical theater, adult
pop and standard vocals, and Phantom theatrical and movie fans alike.

ALW's
The Phantom of the Opera, music from the motion picture performed by Mask
This is a cheap version I bought yesterday (february 7 2005) in the
"free record shop" for 5 euro. I thought the name of the Performers
was well thought out....mask. For this price I expected it to be fully
instrumental especially because not singers are mentioned anywhere but...suprise
surprise the songs are sung. Not by the actors from the movie, but certainly
not bad. The music is slightly synthesized and pop like but I certainly
do not feel cheated. Because of the order of tracks I suspect that it orgininally
has been a cd of the musical but to profit from the movie some movie tracks
have been addded. Who knows. Masquerade is by the way very bad.
Tracklist:
1. Overture

From the inlay:
Under DeMille's direction, The Lux radio Theatre dealt entirely with
adaptations of prominent films. Wherever possible they tried to use the
stars of the film in particulair but sometimes contracts of conflicting
assignments required substitutes, although alway substitutes of star rank,
On the evening op September 13, 1943, DeMille introduced Nelson Eddy and
Susannah Foster as the starts of his presentation of "The Phantom of the
Opera", but with Basil Rathbone in the role of the Phantom and not Claude
Rains, who could be seen in the recently released universal film.

Goodman Trio: The Phantom of the Opera (jazz)
The inlet in the CD says:
This session, the Steve Goodman trio's jazz interpretations of compositions
from "Phantom of the Opera", was one of the most remarkable recording dates
in recent memory. Here is but one of the reasons: Rehearsal for "Phantom",
one of the more difficult sets of compositions from Broadway's "new wave"
of musicals, was minimal, constituting less than an hour the week before.
I can only say that this whole cd , filled with jazz variations sounds indeed like they wer "jamming" but that does not make it bad! If you are into jazz you will really like the orriginality but still I think its a pitty that because of the inprovisation during the recording session lots of Phantom melodies are hardly recognisable.

The inlet in the CD says:
Some hundred years ago, a famous happened in the Paris Opera....
A mystery never explained.. We're told , there was a ghost, called
"The Phantom of the Opera"... Still he does exist in our present time,
in everybody's mind! But now he's called.... The Phantom of Techno.
I can only say that this version is titled: "The Phantom of the Opera - original house version" and its from a group called "Mask Attack".
If you really dont like house/techno etc. there is a chance you might not like it. But also keep in mind that when you seriously try to get in to the "story" the band had in mind, it gets a whole different dimension than a average techno song.

Best of Broadway cd
When I got this double CD with 28 musical songs from my husband
I was pleasantly suprised. On it was a version of Music of the Night
I had not yet found for my collection. Its a very soft slow, sound and
to me it seems the singer did not really like doing this song. If
I have to describe the style I can only say its a kind of "christmas/flower
power" like version. It is different than what you are used to but I suggest
you try it!

The cover looks the same as the cd cover but only with yellow eyes and letters in stead of red ones like on the cd cover.
The contence is puzzeling since there are versions on it that do not appear on the normal cd. So if you already have the cd and like it, it would also be advisable to buy the maxi cd.
