Sound Rating 7/10 Track No.25:Not the "Abbey Road" L.P. track, but rather Yoko singing to John and then John singing back to Yoko. Sounds rather Ad lib. Sound source taken from a (bootleg) L.P. with crackles and distortion Sound Rating 7/10 Track No.26:Demo of part of "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" Sound Rating 7/10 Comments Most of the tracks sound like they've been sourced from an L.P. rather than the original master tapes. Also given that there is excessive hiss/noise on some tracks and that occationally the vocals &/or guitars sound harsh, I suspect that the old trick of "tweeking up the EQ" has occured with most of these tracks. (That is increasing the levels of the frequencies above 2000 Hz by 3 - 5 dB.) Whether this has occured at the L.P. or C.D. stage, is anybody's guess. The biggest problem with this C.D. is that it is not what it infers, that is the complete 1968 demos. Mixed in with the demos are working versions and musical ramblings. Demos of Obladi Oblada, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, Not Guilty (fully complete), Junk, Sour Milk Sea, Honey Pie, Circles are all missing. The other concern which I have is that the tracks have been sourced from an L.P. rather than the master tapes.(where available) I have heard comments that these versions sound more bright, but I personally prefer to hear no hiss or crackles or pops and the "tweeking up the EQ" on some of the tracks has caused them to be somewhat harsh to the ear. If you already have the Yellow Dog Unsurpassed Demos , then the most interesting tracks on this C.D. are the two versions of "Oh My Love" and the unlisted (and incomplete) "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" Worth getting if no alternate available. Artwork: simple but not brilliant 8/10
