Jacky recalls the first meeting with Regine before they recorded "In Love With You" in Hong Kong last year.

"She was eating (pizza), something which I never did when I try to record a song. That was very amazing to me. That was the first time I ever did a duet with any artist. She has a very talented mind and gifted voice.

Their first meeting was also unforgettable for Regine.
"
I didn't know him, so I was very nervous," she recounts. "The first time I saw him, he was in jeans and jacket. He extended his hand and I couldn't believe I was actually meeting an international singing superstar. He was very humble. He was even the one who was shy."

"For a guy his status, I wasn't expecting him to be really nice to me. Jacky is a superstar not only in Hong Kong but in Asia. I was very happy that I was given a chance to do a duet with him. I had a good time recording with him and shooting the MTV."

The duet may have been lapped up by Asian music fans, but a real-life story is far-fetched as Jacky is already committed.
"
If I had met Regine earlier, probably, " the Chinese superstars says. She's very nice and she's even prettier now than the first time I met her. I'm not saying that because I'm here I will say the same thing when I'm in my country."

Jun De Leon. Photographer Jun De Leon has two words to describe Regine Velasquez, a "photographic delight." "She's not only a great singer, but also an extremely disciplined artist," Jun explains. "There's a passion for everything she does, and she knows the word perfections because she strives for it in every detail of a pictorial." He considers her very easy to work with not because she "tries to be pleasant," but because "the artist in her genuinely understands what we're trying to do. She absorbs things quickly.

Kuh on producing a concert for Regine Velasquez (Regine at 17 concert):

"I have always wanted to do this for other singers. This will not be my last. I believe in Regine's talent. I just want to do something good for one so deserving like her. I also started from the bottom and people have supported me. I want to share the blessings I have with her."

Regine cried when she learned Kuh's intent to produce a show for her. "Idol ko talaga siya, I want to be like her. Lahat ng minus one niya mayroon ako. I never imagined Kuh would do this to me. Ang sarap ng feeling kapag napapansin ka ng idol mo." Regine declares.

Regine on her victory in Asia-Pacific Song Festival in 1989:

"I wasn't able to hold back tears. I was so happy for my countrymen and all the people who believed in me. I thought of President Cory, si mama, papa, Ivy, Nanette, Ronnie. Actually, while I was compelled to sing my song again for the last time, I didn't know if I missed a note. My mind was in a maze and I saw mental pictures of all the people who must be proud of me at that moment."

WHAT DO HER COLLEAGUES SAY ABOUT HER?

"The ultimate singer. I said it once, I'll say it again. She's the best singer in the country, maybe even the world." - Martin Nievera.

"I know talent when I see one and again my instinct proves me right with Regine. She' got talent and sincerity in her craft. I wish her all the best in her upcoming concert at FAT." - Kuh Ledesma.

"When I had my Birthday Blow-Out concert at the ULTRA in 1987, I guested her because I believe that among the new breed of singers she has what it takes to make it big. I was right. After giving birth, I did 'Bakbakan' with her and the series "String Fever." The nicest thing about Regine is her attitude towards her singing career. Walang maraming arte dahil alam niyang kaya niya kahit ano but you could see the humility that is very evident." - Joey Albert.

"Regine is one very good singer. She has a powerful voice. Tamang-tama lang yung timing ng pagmamature niya sa kanyang career. For her age, it is quite unusual na ma-reach niya yung peak ng kanyang singing career compared to her contemporaries. And we are very sure that she is going to maintain her status as Class A singer." - Apo Hiking Soceity

"As a person, Regine has a captivating child-like quality about her. As a singer, she's at once delicate and powerful with a voice that lingers long after the song is over." - Jose Mari Chan

Mr. & Ms.

David Celdran, a TV host, Sociology instructor, describes Regine Velasquez:

"She's naturally funny, kalog. It comes out in unguarded moments. She's witty, she's cute. She's very animated, like I'm watching a cartoon. I feel so aliw. She's a star, she acts like a star but with no star complex. She's down to earth."

David Celdran had to find a way to meet her, as a friend and not a girlfriend. Yet not anyway. The students tease him endlessly, sing Regine's song whenever they pass by him at the hallway.

"The Easy Call messages are just simple calls like 'hi, what's up?' I can't send smoke signals, no. I don't like to write letters because it means something else. I think we've finally developed a good friendship even though we hardly had a chance to talk. I want to see the serious side of her, like how she talks to herself before she goes to sleep. I want to know what questions she asks. A lot of people know her but they only see the animated side of her." he says.

Regine on her audition to Ms. Saigon:

"I'm really not interested. I was to audition the first time around but chickened out. I have no background stage…I might just make a fool of myself."

"During the auditions, they all made us feel good, fantastic, which I'm sure they told everbody who auditioned. They didn't tell us definitely if we made it or what role we were being considered for." Regine reveals.

Three weeks after she returned to New York, Regine says her manager, Ronnie Henares, received word from Ms. Saigon producers asking if she was willing to take voice lessons.

"That's when I began thinking. If I took voice lessons it means that I'm interested, I'm bent on being on the show. But they didn't make any firm offer of any part. When I went to New York, I hadn't really decided if I wanted to be in Ms. Saigon. I didn't want to do the voice lesson when I was still undecided. I might still change my mind. But when I decided not to do Ms. Saigon, we sent a formal letter saying sorry. Even if I'm taken for the part of Kim. I don't see myself on stage. In the first place, I'd just have a hart time because I don't have theater background. Second, personal, like my family. I have to leave my family here. Third, what about my career here? Kasi ngayon palang napi-feel ang pinaghirapan ko. Sayang naman kung iiwanan ko, and I'm scared about people's expectations after they saw Lea Salonga. I don't want that kind of responsibility."]

Regine on her ideal man:

"Simple, the most simple person in the whole world and one whose life is not so complicated." She wants someone who can devote time to her.

Three young men being linked to her:

1) Regine found out that Kenneth Peralta had a crush on her when she appeared in, "Tonight w/ Dick and Carmi" where she sang with him. Kenneth was celebrating his b-day then, "I was flattered pero I thought they're teasing me, pero totoo yata."

2) Herbert Bautista - Regine on Herbert Bautista: "We're just friends and we've been starred in a movie, "Pik Pak Boom."

3) As for David Celdran, he's a crush she had kept for a long time that when it came out it was already "dyahe." She considers him a friend since way back, however, they always meet by accident, "hindi pinag-uusapan."

Martin Nievera on Regine V.:
"She really has it. Imagine in just 6 years in the business, she's gone so far. Other singers can wait for years and not get anywhere and the amazing thing about Regine is that she had no contacts, no name to start with, unlike me."
