5.  Those who download files from the Internet should understand the copyright law. The right of creative people to control the display and circulation of their work is assured by law. As a general guideline, however, a copyright notice must be displayed on copyrighted material. If no notice is displayed, the material may be used but out of courtesy, permission should still be requested. If a copyright notice is displayed, then permission for using the material must be obtained from the copyright owner before using the material. On the Internet copyright permissions are easily obtained using e-mail. All materials not created by the author should contain a complete citation giving credit to the source.
