THE CURLER GIRL STORY...

US WAITING OUTSIDE OF ABC STUDIOS

We're the two very lucky fans that got to go into the Regis show. You may remember us, we had our curlers in!!!! Here's our story of the events leading up to and then getting into to see Rick on the show.

Let me start out with by saying it was so unexpected. I guess you could tell by the expressions on our faces? We had decided to go into the city early because we just knew it was going to be hard to get in and the closer we were to the front of the standby line the better. We really expected other people to be there when we got there. It was so cold and then it rained!!! I thought I was going to freeze to death. When we left my house it was in the 60's but a cold front came in and it dropped to the 30's we only had on light jackets. Thank God we had them though because it was so warm when we left we debated even bringing them. We didn't want to have to carry them around the next day.

I guess this is where I should explain about the curlers? I use them all the time. I've used them for years. I have the type of hair that frizzes up if it's too damp or really humid. The curlers are the only thing that seem to help my hair look half way decent. All my friends know I do this. They aren't even phased by it now. In fact, my one friends Father is so use to seeing me with curlers that if I should go to her house without them in, he seems rather disappointed!!! I drive the New Jersey turnpike wearing them all the time. I ride the train wearing them. Heck, I drove half way across counrty to see Rick with them in. It's not something new to me, it wasn't a comedy bit or something we did to get on the show. Contrary to popular belief. I have another friend who just happened to flipping through the channels on Thursday morning. She didn't know Rick was going to be on Regis. She didn't know I was going to the show. All she saw was curlers and she said to her mother, go back Mom, it's Markie. Me and my curlers are pretty synonymous with each other. I turned Suzi onto the curlers a few months ago and now she uses them all the time too. The weather was so nasty the night before we just decided to keep them in as long as we could. So that we could have a decent hair day should we be lucky enough to get in to the show or at the very least for the instore later that day.
O.K. back to the story. We were there about an hour when this camera man came out and asked if he could take a photo of us and we were like sure, why not. Then he came back with a video camera and lights. He just started filming us. I was like do you want us to talk? So he started to ask us some questions which got us to talk about a bunch of other stuff. He filmed us for about 10 minutes. Then he left. Then he came back a little while later and said that he thought we looked cute and that he had left the tape for the producers of R&K to see, that they may use it. End of story. He leaves to go home.

So hours pass, other people start showing up. Big Mo, Malinda, Artie, my long lost sister Linda, Amy and her cousin (Sorry, I don't remember your name but you are a great cousin to come all the way from RI so Amy wouldn't have to come alone). It was very cool to hang out with you guys. It made the time go by a little faster. Very quickly we could tell that there were way too many people in the standby line as well as those with tickets. It started to look very grim for us. Then the show started. We figured our chances were over. They brought a tv monitor out for all of us that didn't get in to see the show. Plus they decided they were going to pan the crowd outside to show all the Rick fans. Suzi and I had had just about enough. We were so cold. I was like as soon as they pan by us I'm gonna go some place warm until Rick leaves and try to see him then.

Well, unbeknownst to us. The tape did get seen by the producers. They showed it to Rick, who had to approve of us coming on the show. If you notice he doesn't even look the least bit surprised that we are in curlers. I guess they decide this will be a good thing to add to the show. So just as I'm about to leave someone comes out and says where are those girls who were in curlers. We yelled right here. They said don't go anywhere. So then we asked the camera guy if we could wait in the lobby and he was like yeah. We still don't know why they don't want us to leave but at this point we are just happy to be inside. So we're sitting there and someone comes back out and asks where we are and we're like here we are and she says I need you to go back outside. We're both like please don't make us go back outside. It's so cold. She was like Regis wants to talk to you. So out we go. They show the clip of us from the night before and then they show us live with no curlers and that's when Regis said that they were going to bring us in. If you look quick you can see Suzi say Thank you at the end of that segment. 90% of that was because she was happy we were going to see Rick but I think at least 10% was because we were going to get out of the cold.

So we run in. We get to the studio and we truely believed they we're just going to let us stand on the side and watch Rick sing. Never in our wildest dreams (O.K. well maybe in Suzi's, she had a dream the night before that we got onstage with Rick on the show but she didn't know why or how we made that happen!!) did we think that when we got in that they would say that Regis wanted to meet us. They take us over to meet him and he's positioning us in front of the camera. He asks us our names and where we are from. Then he kind of turned us to see Rick tuning up for the song and he was like there he is. So we said hi and Rick said hi and he blew us a kiss. We turned back around and Rick yells your hair looks great by the way!!! Everyone laughed. Then we went on the air. Regis introduced us. Then the camera went to Rick to sing Free. We're thinking we're done. But Regis takes us by the hand over to the set so we can watch Rick from there. He's asking if we can see O.K.? Does Rick sound O.K.? Then even though they cut Rick off live. Neither Regis, Rick or us knew it because just as Rick was finishing up Free, Regis says I'm gonna introduce you to to Rick so he took us over to Rick. Regis introduces us. Rick hugs us both and Regis says we'll be right back. None of that made it for the live broadcast. So now they are putting us in position for the close of the show. Rick was talking to us the whole time. Asking again how long had we been out there the night before. We told him since 2am and he said I was sleeping then. We both said together that's what we figured. Then he asked me if it was real cold and I was like yeah really cold and it rained too!! He just went ahh and gave me a big hug. He hugged us both a lot. Then it was time to close the show. Regis said goodbye with us being hugged by Rick.

After it was over we thanked Rick again, he autographed our photos we had with us. Then we thanked Regis. He was so nice to us!!! I think we even hugged him too!!! We decided not to hang around to see Rick leave. It was cold and we had just had one the best experiences of our lives. We didn't think we could top that by seeing him get in his limo. It was definitely a dream come true!!!!

Then we went to the instore. We waited like another 8 hours (lucky for us this time they let us wait inside). It was a lot of fun meeting new friends and seeing others we hadn't seen in a while. Way too many people to mention. Virgin records was really nice letting us all sit in the cafe all day. We were in the first group of people to meet Rick. They said no photos with Rick so we didn't dare ask for photos. We just got autographs. He referred to us both as CURLER GIRLS. Then we left him and then suddenly everyone was getting their photo taken with Rick. So we talked to the security guard and he let us back in line again and we were able to get photos with Rick. He was like is this the end of day photo? Let's make it a good one. We hung around until he left. We were exhausted but very, very happy
