biography It all started with the phenomenal hit "PERFECT" which hit the airwaves last 1992. Medwin, who used to work at Fullerton Studios, together with his colleagues, used to jam after work and was able to write the song "Perfect" together with fellow composer Francis Guevarra. One day, they sneaked into the 16-track studio and recorded an acoustic version of the song. Medwin soon decided to call their group, "Truefaith". He then submitted the song to North Andrew of 99.5 RT. Little did they know that the song would reach number one in the station's Weekly Top 40. Soon enough, it caught the attention of the listeners and A&R executives of recording companies as well. "Perfect" then became the number one song for 10 non-consecutive weeks in the Weekly Top 40 and Song of the Year on 99.5 RT's Top 99 songs for the year 1992. By February of 1993, they landed a recording contract with Octo Arts and released their debut album "PERFECT" by the summer of that year, with Medwin marfil on vocals, Ferdie Marquez and Eazer Pastor on guitars, Francis Guevarra on keyboards, Caryl Campos on bass, and Jun Dizon on drums. In 1994, they released their second album "BEYOND DOUBT". This album went double platinum and contained the hits "Sa Puso Ko", "Huwag Na Lang Kaya?" and "Muntik Nang Maabot Ang Langit". In the 1995 Awit Awards, Truefaith won in three categories: "Muntik Nang Maabot Ang Langit" as Best Folk-Pop Recording, "Huwag Na Lang Kaya?" as Best Pop Recording an Best Engineered Song. The group also toured nationwide and had bigger share of audience since then. In 1995, They released their third album "BUILD" which went platinum in just a month. This was also the debut recording of new bassist, Bimbo Yance. The album had hits like "Alaala", "Kundi Rin Lang Ikaw", "Baliw" and "Hi!". By the end of 1996, artistic indifferences and mishandling of funds took its toll on the band and eventually caused the original line-up to disband. Medwin, together with Jun and Bimbo decided to carry on with Truefaith and attained legal ownership of the band. They began rebuilding the band and recruited Yeng Remulla on keyboards and Carlo Sison as session guitarist. They started to write new material and by May 1996, "LOOKING UP" was released. They came back to the music circuit and continued to hold numerous gigs around the country. In October of 1998, they released their fifth album "BLISS", with Medwin's brother, Eugene (who wrote the song "Huwag Na Lang Kaya?") as part of the official band line-up, and Jake Lumacad as permanent session keyboardist. This time the music is laced with lush electronic grooves courtesy of Brian Cua. |
