BAND

HISTORY

Blackstar was formed in 1995 from the ashes of Carcass. The band consists of Jeff Walker, Ken Owen, & Carlos Regadas of Carcass and Mike Griffiths formerly of Cathedral. The music is different than Carcass as are the vocals. The music has a 70's rock feel mixed with 80's style pop metal. The vocals are not in the death metal style like Carcass but sound more like Cathedral.

BLACKSTAR rose from the ashes of CARCASS, and maybe it would have been better if CARCASS changed their name before "Heartwork". The death metal roots are still here, especially in the production and the quite agressive vocals of Jeff Walker. The music is more in a heavy/70's rock'n'roll vein; the songs are very catchy and performed with a lot of energy and tons of cool groove!.

The sound is absolutely great and this recording is something like a promotape for their forthcoming debut CD to be out in May. I'm really impatient to listen more from them but until then maybe you'll have the chance to see them live in the UK (they must be touring at this very moment with CATHEDRAL and ANATHEMA).
