Part 12: "If We've Got Something To Save, Why Don't We Save It?"
A few
minutes later he is at her doorstep and presses the bell. He
waits and waits before he tries again. A brief moment after she
is there in the doorway in front of him.
- Sarah, he starts. - We
have to talk...
She looks at him, nods and lets him in. Her mind goes wild with
him around. She wants him so badly but then again he just wants
him to get out of her apartment and out of her life.
- I wish things were different. I wish the
circumstances had been different when we... made love...
- You didn't even make love to ME, George. What do you think that
makes me feel when you moan "I love you, Tania" in my
ear in the heat of passion? You are such an asshole!
He doesn't know what to say. He had it all figured out, but now
it stands still.
- I love you, Sarah, is all he comes up
with.
She looks
at him as if he was an alien and had just invited her on a
journey to the Moon.
- Yeah, right. Since when?
- I guess I always have, but I didn't realise it until I met
someone on my trip to Augusta.
- You went to Augusta?
He nods, and for one moment she believes him. But the next she
turns cold again and turns away. She wants to tell him to leave,
but can't say anything because she is not far from a breakdown.
He takes her arm, turns her around and kisses her long and
passionately before he brakes away and walks towards the door.
She grabs after his arm, afraid of what might happen if he walks
away now. He stops a few inches away from the door, and his
half-crying voice says:
- Think about this, Sarah. Would I spend almost 17
hour driving from New York to Maine and back if I didn't care at
all? Would I be here now to sort things out between us if I
didn't?
- But, he says and turns around, But
most importantly; would I stand up to your face with tears in my
eyes and tell you that I love you with all of my heart if I
didn't mean it? I thought you knew me better than that...
He turns around again, ready to walk out the door before she
stops him.
- You know I love you, George... And all I ever
wanted was for you to love me!
Non-of them know what to say. They just stand in front of each other until he takes a step forward, takes her in his arms and gives her a new kiss. This time with even more affection and love than the first o ne. As they stand with their arms around each other and try to show the other that their feelings are so true and deep, a song is played on the radio. The loving couple doesn't notice it at first, but they both pay attention as a well-known phrase comes out of the loudspeakers:
"You're a part of me, and you don't even know it. I'm what you need, but I'm too afraid to show it. If you were my woman, if you were my woman, if you were my woman here's what I'd do, oh! I'd never no, no, no stop loving you..."
