After failures with "Faith no more" and "SugarBabyDoll" Courtney moved back to LA and here she met Eric Erlandson through a newspaper. Soon she choose him as guitarist. Then they linked up with Jill Emery and Caroline Rue and formed HOLE in March 1990. Their first single was "Reatard girl" and the first album "Pretty on the inside" (full of feminine hate, anger, prostitution), that sold 60.000 copies without any video sponsor. Soon Courtney wanted a contract with GEFFEN records and she got it. On the 1992/93 Hole found a new bassist "Kristen Pfaff" and drummer " Patty Schemel". So Hole started to work at new album: "LIVE THROUGH THIS"! Just four days before the album's release(April 7 1994) Kurt Cobain (Courtney's husband) died suicidal.
Just week later Kristen Pfaff died of heroin overdose in her bath tub, the day she wanted get her life back and move away. Hole chose Melissa Auf Der Maur to replace Kristen!
Then Hole toured with Nine Inch Nails. On January 1995 the band decided that they were tired of the cold winter and went to Australia where it was Summer, and played some dates. Then were dates in Japan. So Hole returned in US where at Brooklyn's Academy of Music, taped their MTV's Unplugged on 14 February 1995.
