Martyn Stroud
Musical Director:

Martyn became the musical director of the Isle of Wight Youth Concert Band in 1994 and over the past four years has built up a very good rapport with the Band, dedicating many hours to their needs and helping them progress with there musical abilities

Martyn was educated at Cowes High School and learned the trombone initially from John Gower, our very first musical director.

He enlisted in 1976 and after an intensive course at the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall became principle trombonist and staff arranger in the bands of the Royal Hampshire Regiment and the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment.

His musical career has covered performances with Evelyn Glennie, Sarah Brightman, Chris Rea, Ron Moody, Black Dyke Mills band and various radio orchestras. Assorted media broadcasts include BBC's "Friday night is music night" along with Shirley Bassey, Vera Lynn, and Morcombe and Wise.

He has Organised and participated in music workshops in schools throughout the country (also took part in workshops in Scotland alongside Evelyn Glennie) and has produced arrangements for use at Royal occasions (cathedral services, recptions etc.), published wind band arrangements and brass ensembles, some of which have also been recorded. 

He has been involved for a considerable time now in teaching trombone, brass and theory of music both in schools and privately.

 Martyn is happily married to Kathryn, they have two children Tristan and Charissa and live in West Cowes.
