'Sub' is the second output respectively the first full-length-CD by
Apollyon Sun
, the new band by Thomas Gabriel Fischer from Switzerland. In the past, this man was more known
under the name Tom Warrior, who was he head of the extreme Avant Garde Metal band Celtic Frost.
Apollyon Sun is an extreme band, too, but it goes into a complete other direction. Some
parts are still remembering old Celtic Frost days: Just listen to the guitar intro on 'Reefer Boy' or
the classic 'huh' immediately at the beginning of Messiah!
Apollyon Sun are a very hard industrial band. Although it's no mainstream at all, the single edit
and opener 'Dweller' goes easily into your mind after having listened only a few times to it. Most
songs have dominating guitars and very hard and rhythmic beats, but Apollyon Sun show that they are
also open to slower music. 'Feeder' for instance is containing a classic Ambient part. But they even
go more far and 'Slender' is a real ballad, if this term exists in Industrial music. This song also
has an additional female singer with a very erotic voice. Apollyon Sun present themselves from very different aspects what makes this album real interesting. But Thomas Fischer wasn't able to reach the same cult level that Celtic Frost did. But first of all, Apollyon Sun will surely still develop. Secondly, a Celtic Frost reunion may be possible. And last but not least, Thomas Fischer has released a Celtic Frost biography called 'Are You Morbid? Into The Pandemonium Of Celtic Frost' (Sanctuary Publishing). |
