Das Scheit from Germany released their debut CD in 1998 and got a very good review in DisAgreement
fanzine #18. Pascal declared them as Psycho Metal band and compared their music to such great bands
as Coroner or even VoiVod. A good year later, the second album has come out and it's even more exciting
than the first one. It's surprising how many efforts the four musicians have done in a single year, especially
what's concerning the songwriting. Das Scheit continue to play a modern kind of metal, but they integrate
much more slower passages into their music what makes it even more original and personal. Another change
which has occured in comparison to the debut is that Das Scheit are using more keyboards and samples than is
has been the case before. The opener 'The Box' is not only the best track on the whole CD, but I've seldom
heard a mixture of groovy, but hard guitars and world music like female vocals. Two very quiet, but exciting
and intense songs are 'Long Walk' and 'Lonely Walk', lyrically inspired by Richard Bachmann's book 'The Long
Walk'. The other lyrics treaten more personal experiences by singer and Marylin-Manson-look-alike Clint. Even
if he may look very evil, he was absolutely kind during an interview which will be published in DisAgreement #21.
Das Scheit have written 8 own songs which offer the listener a dramatic mixture of slower, often dreamful
passages and faster stuff which goes straight forward. Track number 9 is called 'Annie' and is a cover version
of 'Here Comes The Rain Again' by the Eurythmics which has turned out well. As Das Scheit is still looking for a deal or a distribution, you have to contact them if this album sounds interesting to you: DAS SCHEIT, c/o Sascha Becker-Sloboda, Berliner Straße 7, D-65385 RÜDESHEIM/Rhein, Germany |
