Power Metal is often a risky business. There are of course eternal good bands like Anvil, Armored Saint
or Riot. But if bands try to copy acts like Helloween or Hammerfall, the output often isn't worth
mentioning. Luckily, Falconer from Sweden belong to the first group. They are the new band by Stefan
Weinerhall who got tired of his former band Mithotyn. Falconer combine very melodic Power Metal riffs
with Nordic folky elements and the result are eleven wonderful songs. Thanks to the variation in the
songwriting and the superb vocals of Mathias Blad, the debut by Falconer has the same charme as the
first outputs by Blind Guardian had. Especially the quiet 'A Quest For The Crown' goes into the just
named direction. Faster songs like 'Mindtraveller' aren't a problem for Falconer, too. But you have
to listen to the last track to hear the absolute highlight of the CD: 'Per Tyrssons Döttrar I
Vänge' is a pure Nordish folk song with a beautiful male and female voices. Falconer will surely belong
to the best newcomers of the year 2001 as their CD is an ideal example for a well done Power Metal CD.
