It's meanwhile known that Northern Europe had a good reputation for providing excellent Rock'n'Roll bands. Although most of them are coming from Sweden, some of them have their origin in the neighbour countries, as The Festermen from Finland. What the three Ewel Knewel like looking dudes are playing is a quite fucked up kind of music. They are definitely the most extreme Rock'n'Roll band I've heard in the last years. Their sound is much dirtier than the one of most bands as they are using two guitars (one attached to a bass amplifier), drums, vocals but no bass. To know a bit how they are sounding, imagine the first rough albums by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion combined with distorted Bo Diddley guitars. With 'Wine Goes Down', you even find a real Blues song on this CD. Without being annoying, it's quite hard to listen to the unusual songs on this CD. So it's good that it doesn't last much longer than half an hour. To me, the songs could have been a bit more melodic. Or have I just become too soft? |
