Flotsam & Jetsam surely belong to the oldest still active Metal bands as their debut 'Doomsday For The Deceiver' already came out in 1986. 15 years later, they have released their 8th album which is called 'My God'. Again, they show what Metal is all about. Traditional values play an important part in their music, but nevertheless, F&J refuse to repeat themselves. 'My God' offers of course lots of fast tracks as the opener 'Dig Me Out To Bury Me', but also melodic songs like 'Nothing To Say'. Old School Thrash Metal has become very rare today, so this makes Flotsam's music even more precious as it's still free from any Crossover or other contemporary elements. Sometimes, they present themselves from a very quiet side, as on 'Weather To Do' or 'Trash', a song which also exists in an acoustic version as hidden bonus track. The biggest difference between this CD and the last one 'Unnatural Selection' is that F&J are renouncing to any experimental stuff and play straight melodic Power or Thrash Metal. Guitar play, rhythm section and vocals are excellent, high above average, but I doubt again that Flotsam & Jetsam will get the attention they deserve. |
