These days it has become rare that I get a vinyl 7 to review. This one by Fluxer is a quite bizarre one. First of all, John Eikleberry has composed and performed both songs all by himself. Although he's coming from the West coast, the musical output is absolutely sounding East coast. 'The Memory' and 'Outset In' are two slow instrumentated songs with a dominant bass play. They are quite distorted and you can draw parallels to bands like Sonic Youth or My Bloody Valentine. I'd never have thought that a musician from sunny California would be able to write such sad songs. Or he dislikes the sun and prefers rehearsing in a dark cave. A joke on the B-side is that the song doesn't end at all and the needle of the record player gets caught in the last rill. So you can hear a kind of bell ringing for an eternal time. Surely two interesting songs, but very difficult to digest. Interested people can send 3 US$ to the following address : Fluxer, c/o John Eikleberry, 604-B 2nd Street, SANTA CRUZ, CA 95060, USA |
