What a funny name; Grizzlybearunderwear. When I got that CD at the PopKomm 2000, I first thought that this must be a very funny band, but after the first listening, I had to discover that I was wrong. Although the four Grizzlies like noise and distortions, there music can't be described as something fast, brutal or frightening. Nevertheless, they are playing a very extreme kind of music, but their tendency goes more into an experimental or minimalistic direction. The song structures are quite monotone and not easy at all to follow. The use of vocals is quite seldom. Somehow this reminds me of early My Bloody Valentine or early Notwist, two bands that didn't have a start completely up to my taste. For me, this music is to experimental and somehow esoteric. Maybe it's cool to listen to it when you are stoned, a situation that I usually (or always) avoid. And I prefer music played on the classic Rock instruments. |
