Hades have already an extreme long history. The band got already formed in 1978, played their first gig in 1982 but released its first CD 'Resisting Success' only in 1987. After a split-up in 1989, we had to wait for 10 long years before they made their comeback. 'DamNation' is after '$avior$elf' and 'The Downside' already the third CD from the new Hades era which shows the band from a differnt side. They started as a Prog Metal band, but have now changed into a Neo Groove direction. One difference between 'DamNation' and the two albums before is a double line up change: Hades have a new drummer called Ron Lipnicki and original bass player Jimmy Schulman has returned to the band. Another one is that Hades present themselves from a hard and heavy side that was never heard before. The opening song 'Bloast' is extremely fast and gives already a quick preview what will expect you during the next 40 minutes. But Hades get also more diverse from album to album. After four fast tracks in a row, they present with 'Force Quit' an excellent midtempo song with cool bass lines. And the ending track 'Bad Vibrations' shows Hades from an usual quiet side. 'The Downside' surely was a progress compared to '$avior$elf', but 'DamNation' is still slightly better. All songs do of course take profit from Alan Tecchio's high, but firm and remarkable voice. Guitar play and the rhythm section also do a great work here which makes this CD now already one of the best Metal albums of the year.
