Hard-Ons are the first and most famous Australian
Punk band. Long before the melodic Punk hype, they already started playing music in 1983. As they hadn't
any guidelines to follow, they described themselves as Motörhead playing Beach Boys songs. This was
a kind of music that I never really liked to much and I didn't pay much attention to the Hard-Ons. Now
they released their 10th album called 'This Terrible Place' and the cover artwork is still looking
very proll like. Luckily they have done great musical progress. The opening song 'Fallen Star' is a
very melancholic Noise song and is showing huge parallels to the early Dinosaur Jr. The band has become
much calmer than they were in the past. A song like 'Ice Cream' is showing in an excellent way the
change of the three musicians. Songs like 'First Cut Is The Weakest' or 'Trouble Trouble' are as
melodic that even Blink 182 fans may like them. Noise orgies like 'Nosebleed' have become seldom and
I really prefer their melodic stuff like 'Sadly Ever After' or the wonderful Birthday song. You nearly
get a hard-on listening to this CD.
