Immolation released in 1999 with 'Failures For Gods' The Death Metal album of the year. So it would be difficult for them to reach the same high level with their meanwhile fourth album 'Close To A World Below'. But I'd like to say immediately that they didn't disappoint at all. Playing the traditional values of Death Metal on a very high level seems to be the secret of Immolation's success. The variation of speed in the different songs gives them each time refreshing impulses. But especially the high speed parts are just astonishing. Guitars and drums are played in a way as I have only seldom heard before. Rough and sick sounding vocals as well as a powerful production are some more trademarks of a perfect Death Metal band. Reading the blasphemous lyrics is of course another entertaining aspect of their music. I know that there are nowadays countless Death Metal bands, but Immolation are not only one of the pioneers of that music, but they also belong to the top of that scene.
