6 songs / 67 minutes

Inqiure's second album 'The Neck Pillow'
is a quite unusual CD. It contains six tracks lasting between 2 and 21 minutes. The concept of
the CD is a musical hommage on Rosa von Praunheim's movie 'Die Bettwurst' (1970). It's a love story
about two people trying in vain to escape their social expectations and who will find their end.
On the musical point of view, Inquire give a shit about trendy music and play a king of Progressive
Rock or Krautrock as played by German bands in the early 70's. Parallel's to Eloy, Grobschnitt or
Anyone's Daughter are easy to find here. One trademark of the songs are long, great instrumentated
passages which aren't interrupted by vocals. Especially the keyboard effects are overwhelming. The
use of the vocals is quite diversified; you hear everything from clearly sung parts, to spoken words,
cries and deeper voices. Although this is one of the most mature records that I have heard this year,
I fear that only very tolerate people will adore this CD. And getting airplay on radios will be
another difficult thing with such long songs. But Inquire know what they do and they do this in
a perfect way. To get more information about this band, you can write to them or
send an e-mail. Thomas Kohls, Mittelstraße 24, D-42799 LEICHLINGEN (Germany) |
