Ten bands from Sweden and Denmark have tried to cover some classic tracks by Heavy Metal legend
Iron Maiden. Some bands did a good work, but most failed absolutely. Here's a tracklist of all
participating bands followed by a short personal comment.
- 01. Supersilent: Can I Play With Madness? (excellent Rock version of this late 80ies hit)
- 02. Ofring: No Prayer For The Dying (great Black Metal, but showing no parallels to the original)
- 03. Frozen Sun: The Trooper (ridiculous, Iron Maiden with a comic singer with helium voice)
- 04. Infernal Torment: 7th Son Of A 7th Son (Black Metal version with few parallels to the original)
- 05. Powerage: Hallowed Be Thy Name (well done, this song still has Maiden spirit)
- 06. Loudmess: The Number Of The Beast (Industrial and Iron Maiden songs don't fit at all)
- 07. Withering Surface: Purgatory (good guitar work, but drums and Thrash vocals really suck)
- 08. Slip Into Silk: Charlotte The Harlot (awful production is ruinating this song)
- 09. Roadkill: Stranger In A Strange Land (give the song a Nordish Metal touch which is quite OK)
- 10. Headquake: The Fugitive (kind of Crossover, quite unusual)
On the musical point of view, most bands still haven't achieved a very high level. So it's no surprise
that they ruinate most Maiden versions. I don't like the album too much, without being the biggest Maiden
fan. But I suppose that big Maiden disciples will see this CD as a sacrilege. Or else, they have to be
very tolerating persons.
