Jacob's Dream are considered as one of the most important new progressive power metal bands at the moment, and to be truthful, they are not at all bad. Great musicianship, a singer who's hitting all those high-pitched notes that we all loved way back in the 80ies, and therefore a lot of musical nostalgia. Their debut for Metal Blade which got released in 2000 got the greatest reviews from every side. The new one is called 'Theater Of War' and following more or less the same musical path. One change is that Jacob's Dream are now only working with two instead of three guitars and are more concentrating on the rhythm section. This change gives their music a slightly harder touch compared to the debut. Again, they have recorded a CD which is a real jewel for fans of Power Metal which used to be a hype 15 years ago (Crimson Glory, Queensryche). Even if 8 of 9 tracks go into that direction, the CD is also containing a very beautiful slower song called 'Sarah Williams'. Jacob's Dream are a Christian band, but their lyrics aren't radical at all, although they are often about religious or spiritual themes. You have to decide yourself if Jacob's Dream's music is old-fashioned or just wonderfully played in a nostalgic way. I think they have done a progress compared to the debut. |
