This is a concert I've really been looking forward to. In August 2000, I saw Die Happy already
at the Taubertal Openair in Rothenburg / Germany, and the band about power woman Marta was to me
one of the best newcomers 2000. So, exactly 8 months after my first contact with Die Happy, I
was lucky to have the opportunity to see them back. So I don't want to hear anymore that Friday,
13th isn't a lucky day.
I also had the chance to get an interview with the band before their gig. Bass player Ralph
and drummer Jürgen took about a quarter of an hour to answer my questions. The interview
got braodcasted on Radio ARA on April 19th. Although the musicians are under contract at a major
label, they are still behaving in an absolute natural way. They still show great interest in their
fans and don't have any arrogant approaches. Another good fact about the interview which took place
in the backstage was that I so missed most songs of the opening band Superfly69. This German
based group was nothing else than a cheap copy of Therapy?.
Second band this evening were Fluyd from Eastcoast Luxemburg, surely our national Crossover kings.
They haven't played for several months because of two line up changes. Two original members (bass,
keyboard) left and got replaced by two musicians of Neo Tokyo. Even if Neo Tokyo is a band that is
trying in vain to sound alternatively, the two fit well into their new group Fluyd. The main
attraction of Fluyd are still the vocals of the two different singers. The male singer is still
acting as a madman on stage, jumping around and always searching the contact with the public. And
in Esch (the secret capital of Luxemburg), he got rewarded with a great audience. The female singer
is less moving on stage, just swinging her hips, but she's not only absolutely beautiful, she also
has a stronge and loud voice. I don't have to add that she gained the public's attention without
any difficulties. Another change for Fluyd is that they are now only playing with one drummer.
After a short break, Die Happy entered the stage and people went already crazy when hearing the
first notes. The band was thankful and gave its best efforts to please them. For singer Marta
this was a very special day. First of all, see was quite sick and had to drink tea out of a thermos
flask. But she didn't care about her voice problems and was shouting as if her life was depending
upon it. I saw her very tired looking in the backstage, but she still had a better voice on stage
than Sandra Nasic from the Guano Apes when she's OK. Secondly it was Marta's 27th birthday and people
were often singing for her in different languages. She really seemed moved. Back to the music on
stage. Die Happy were playing nearly every song from their major debut 'Supersonic Speed'. Most songs
were fast and speedy, but the set also contained slower ones. People liked them all and were quite
familiar with the lyrics. As the very charismatic Marta was always searching the contact with the
fans, there was of course a great party feeling. And now another subjective or personal point of view.
At Taubertal 2000, Marta was already looking like a goddess. Now she has lost some pounds and is even
looking better. Gorgeous, or is there a word to outdo goddess?
Not considering the first band, this was one of the best concerts I've visited at the Kulturfabrik.
And I know that I will see Die Happy soon again. Already on June 30th, 2001, they will play in Trier
at the Sommerbühne of the Exil.
