German power metal band Neon Sunrise received a lot of critical acclaim in 1999 with their first CD-EP "Burning In The Focus". A tight combination of power metal with some lightly progressive influences reminded somehow of bands like Nevermore or Iced Earth. The new advance CD contains 4 songs that come in a very crude rough mix, but as they won't be released like this, let's not complain about the sound quality. My first impression was that Neon Sunrise sound more powerful these days, as they have got rid of most of the progressive elements. Not that they sound regressive now, but they use their skills on the new recordings in a way to get an even more modern sound. The rather high vocals are confronted to modern groove guitar sounds, which may sound strange the way I am describing it here, but you can be sure that it works. I doubt though that this advance will be sold, as Neon Sunrise have put three of these songs for free download on their homepage at mp3.de .
