This CD by The Pajama Slave Dancers is a real oldie as it came already out in 1997, but I only got it with a delay of four entire years. They belong to the first bands of the Massachusett Punk scene and have already released five albums. But that is not so much when you consider that the band was formed in the early eighties. Their music isn't pure Punk, but it's combined with elements as Surf, Garage or even a little country. The album, which is containing 9 studio tracks and 12 live tracks, is full of surprises. You find on the same CD Dick Dale like Surf instrumentals (Steve's Boogie), Dead Kennedys anthems (Nuclear Van), Violent Femmes clones (Battle Of Rock & Roll Mountain), gory tunes (Helpless) and even commercial stuff (Give Me Love So I Can Kill). But even if lots of songs are sounding very different, the Pajama Slave Dancers never forget to put huge amounts of humour into their songs. To me, this CD is a great journey through the independent music scene of North America. |
