Phonophobie is a project around Matthias Petsche
from Berlin / Germany. Although it may be considered as electronic music, it belongs to the most
interesting acts of that genre. Maybe because it's not pure electronical, you also find real instruments
like bass, guitar, drums and keyboards. 'Komm', the first real track after the intro, is a superb
mixture of German Diskurs midtempo Pop and ambient. To me, this is one of the best German spoken songs
ever written. The next song 'Cliseem' goes into a harder drum's'n'bass direction, too far away from
real music to my ears. Song number 5 'Disconnect' has a female guest singer with a great voice. The
title track is lasting 8 minutes and presents very brutal electro structures. The highlight of the CD
is 'Before / Again', a twelve minutes maxi version of 'Komm'. Although Electronica is not totally the
music I like, I respect the combination of melancholic pop tunes with an electro ambiance. If you like
Depeche Mode, Portishead or Massive Attack, Phonophobie will also be up to your taste. Check their
homepage, you have the possibility to download three songs from three previous albums.
