The Pretty Maids are one of Danmarks most famous Metal exports and belong to the most popular melodic Metal bands. I first came in contact with their music about 15 years ago when they released their album 'Future World'. Nowadays it's hard to imagine that 'Carpe Diem' is already the 14th record by the Pretty Maids. Although I'm not very familiar with their music, I think that this CD isn't too bad for Melodic Metal. The opener 'Until It Dies' is a quite typical straight and fast title, but the next song 'Carpe Diem' presents the Pretty Maids with an excellent midtempo song. Some songs like 'Clay' have a quite commercial aspect (lots of keyboards, easy going chorus), but nevertheless, the Pretty Maids are never sounding embarrassing, as the songs are well structured. Another great advantage for the Pretty Maids is the fact that they have in Ronnie Atkins a great singer with quite a rough voice. In general, there are no weak tracks on this CD and 'Carpe Diem' is surely one of the better Melodic Metal albums. |
